Dodged A Bullet

I am a firm believer that if we had announced fritz or Chadwell as coach, we would have lost a bunch of portal guys. So, they would have been starting from way down and would have been scrambling to pull in new portal guys and keep the recruits we had and would have struggled with talent in year one. Unless they had some
Type of miracle season in year one(maybe win 6) I have a hard time believing either would pull in much new talent. Keys Retention is going to keep existing players and recruits, flip a couple surprise recruits and possibly bring back a few guys that went elsewhere but want back in(Willis?). I am certain we have the right guy.

Tulane looking good though , but too bad GT can’t afford anything !
Let’s keep it simple: Tulane is the best team in the American Athletic Conference and is bound for the Cotton Bowl after beating Central Florida 45-28. The Green Wave’s last conference championship came in 1998, and its last current New Year’s Six Bowl appearance came in the 1904 Sugar Bowl.

Love all the rationalizations and homerism here. Zero - ZERO - objectivity. "Whatever we did was right, and if we had done anything different then the sky would have fallen. Definitely. Because . . . well, because that is just what I have managed to talk myself into believing!" Even when it's pretty ööööing obvious to anyone with a SHRED of objectivity that the sky already has been falling on your ass non-stop for four years.

Right there with, in every ööööing game, the refs are screwing us with bad calls, everyone else is holding (but we never are), they're all committing pass interference (and we never are), and my all-time favorite . . . that was (or wasn't) a catch (or first down)!!!

Never could understand that part of fandom. How do you delude yourself like that? How do you pretend to yourself to see something different than what's right in front of your eyes? How do you shut off your brain? Maybe I'm not drinking enough.

I was all in for Chadwell as my #2 choice. CBK was my #1 choice. I'm surprised by how poorly CCU played in their last two games. Maybe all the talk of Chadwell leaving had a negative effect on the Chants play. Poor defense really surprised me.

Merry Christmas, Go Jackets and God bless!

Like this is the first time a team has played poorly knowing their coach was leaving :lol2:
Is it a done deal that Chadwell is leaving CCU? I guess I missed it. Where is he going?

Other than money, why would a coach leave a low-level FBS school for another low-lever FBS school? I don’t understand the Coastal Carolina to Liberty move at all.

Chadwell, who by reports wanted guaranteed money, is getting his ass handed to him by Troy. Glad things worked out for Key, and glad Chadwell is now hoisted upon Liberty.
Chadwell vs. Key is a false dichotomy. There were a lot of other possible coaches. I liked Willie Fritz more than those two, for example.

What about fritz.. besting ucf. Missed a good one?
Fritz is a darned good coach who has proved it over the last 30 years, and who doesn't need a contract with non-guaranteed money. Chadwell, OTOH, is a relatively young coach who hasn't really proven anything except he can win against lower competition but gets waxed when it counts most. He also appears to have bad judgement as GT was interesting in hiring him for his offensive capability, but he insisted on bringing his thoroughly crappy defensive coaches with him. Way to blow a great opportunity, bro.

Nor do I really. Either Liberty must be willing to pay him bigger dollars or he's playing CCU to get a bigger contract. He's not adding to the moment, though, the way his team has played the last wo games.

Sounds like you do understand it. I bet his contract at Liberty has more guaranteed money than Key's does.

If he convinced them to let him bring his defensive staff with him, then LU just got taken to the cleaners. The higher the program the better the D has to be. We all know that offense wins games, but defense wins championships, right?

Your last sentence has never rang more true than it showed during the championship games taking place yesterday.

Chadwell to Liberty is the latest rumor via Pete Thamel. Here is what Liberty FB is:

Liberty HC Salary: $2.1 million, but then-coach Hugh Freeze agreed to a deal that would have paid him almost $5 million annually in October... Rumor is Chadwell is getting $4million

Facilities: The Athletic called Liberty perhaps “the best-resourced program in the Group of 5.” The Flames moved into their renovated 65,000-square-foot football facility in 2020, opened their $29 million indoor practice facility in 2017 and expanded their stadium a year later.

Football budget:
Operating expenses: $4.8 million Total expenses: $17.9 million Total revenue: $17.9 million

Recruiting footprint: Five-year average talent ranking, according to the 247Sports composite: Liberty is 132.8 nationally (independent)

Conference affiliation/recent success: Liberty is an independent but is joining Conference USA next year. The league will likely remain at the bottom of Division I-A, but the Flames should be among its top programs.

Liberty is an evangelical school, and athletic director Ian McCaw said he’s looking for someone willing to “train champions for Christ.” Not every coach will be a match, but Chadwell has worked at Christian schools in the past; the introductory news conference at his first head coaching job began with a prayer. Chadwell has only worked in the Southeast.
