Dodged A Bullet

I wonder how some of you posters would have felt about Dabo right before he won his first NC. You know, when he got waxed by WVU for 73 points in the orange bowl, when they constantly lost like 2-3 winnable games a year.
Chadwell is still a great coach. They just lost their 3 year starting QB (it matters allot more for then than us), he's in the middle of negotiations with other schools for their coaching positions.

During this coaching cycle, Chadwell emerged as a serious contender for the Georgia Tech job and sources with direct knowledge told FootballScoop that Chadwell had been prioritized as one of if not the top target for the University of South Florida opening.

Chadwell has a good offensive system, but his defenses are crappy. On top of that, he's apparently insisted on bringing his defensive staff with him, so he apparently doesn't realize they are not doing a good job. That doesn't bode well for success at a higher level, IMPO. He may learn over time, but Dabo knew this from the beginning, taking a lower paycheck himself to be able to hire the best OC and DC that he could.

Not what I heard. The DC was to remain at costal to be head coach. Our boosters f'ed this up.

How could that possibly be seeing as how Chadwell was never actually going to Tech? Had they already done a coaching search? Perhaps that was their stopgap plan for leadership should JC leave? If so, if you were DC and you had opp to go to a P5 program or stay as interim HC, which would you choose?

Like this is the first time a team has played poorly knowing their coach was leaving :lol2:

Exactly.

People talk about losing a game or two to James Madison or Troy means the guy can't coach. He isn't losing to JMU or Troy with P5 talent. He lost to teams with similar talent. He still went 31-6 over the past three seasons.

Then the other knock on him is "who has he beaten?" Isn't it dumb to expect a coach with lower-end talent to be taking down P5 schools regularly? He beat up on teams with similar talent. Put him on a team with P5 talent and I think he'd have a pretty good record too. Would he beat UGA and Clemson regularly at GT? Probably not, but what coach would?

The dumb anti-Chadwell takes are dumb.

:bigcry:

Liberty has more $ than a lot of P5 schools to throw around. Hugh Freeze's contract was dumb.

Lmao…no one in the country was knocking on Key’s door giving him any offers. Tech did go the slumming route hiring an interim no one else wanted.
LOL. Maybe the rest of the country assumed Tech was going do the wise thing and keep the coach who turned them around and knows the personnel better than any other head coach. We didn't get to see Key in the market for a HC job.

Whatever makes you feel better about promoting the coach most responsible for the last 4 years not named Collins. LOL

You're completely ignoring the development seen this past fall - but if that makes you feel worse, it's no problem with me.

I'm looking at the whys and noting the record of the excessive number of 1 and done transfers we had at the position from 2019 through 2021. I'm seeing the reality that this year, finally, we had an OL unit that had been together for 2+ years. I'm acknowledging the legacy that CBK has done a good to very good job at building and maintaining an OL everywhere he has been prior to coming back to Tech.

This, plus the play on the field after he became IHC convinced me that he can get it done.

You think we aren’t paying Key $4M a year?

No, I don't. And if we do, I definitely don't think it will be for seven years.

I think Key will slot in at like $3-$3.5 million a year for five years with a reasonable buyout.

I think Key's overall tenure as O-line coach was a failure.

With that said, he did a fine job as interim and maybe he'll be a much better HC. Maybe he was hamstrung by Collins.
Yes he was forced on us by the boosters, but I still want him to do well. I really hope he does. Genuinely

He was going to be there replacement, not just interim. That's why.
