Dodged A Bullet

I think the main reason many GT fans were so all-in on Chadwell is his offense, rightly or wrongly, reminds people of the TO with a large passing presence. It’s seen as a “gimmick” offense. And it apparently relies heavily on having a QB that can run it- much like the TO. Is that a fair comparison? I haven’t watched enough CC football to have any idea.

I loved CPJ as a coach at Tech. I also agree with many previous voices that his retirement came at a reasonable time. The Clown was a ööööshow no doubt. I love tech, but I personally wasn’t excited about the idea of hiring another “gimmick” offense. Good luck to him at Liberty. I hope he excels.

CBK may not have been my first choice, but what the hell do I know about football administration at this level? Not a damned thing. None of us know what happened behind the scenes in the coaching search. I do know that I love what I saw the team do once Key took over. Those young men went to battle for him. They played their hearts out (with one very notable exception) No, it wasn’t perfect. But it was so much better than anything we’ve seen in the last few years that I can’t wait to see what the boys will do with an off-season to prepare.

Key is our man. Nothing else is relevant right now. I get that not everyone is happy about the hire. Your concerns are valid. You’ve had your time to voice your complaints. At some point you’ll have to get on the bandwagon. Or you can be pissed off secretly hoping for the team to fail so you can selfishly be proven right, but that sounds like a miserable existence to me.

We were only paying g Collins 3M and folks (Prez GTAA) are complaining about the buyout, Willie Fritz and J Chadwell both turned down GT. So if Chadwell is making 4M at Liberty it would seem that GT is paying CBK less since he was pick #3

You don't know what pick Key was. You don't know who was offered and who wasn't. We have heard who was offered, but nobody knows how far any of it progressed.

The salary and the buyout are two different things.

It had nothing to do with his offense resembling the triple option and everything to do with his program elevating results. My god it’s easy to see who is obsessed with option football and it’s not the people constantly accused of it.

it’s not hard to see why people wanted him he took Coastal from nothing to very high level performance. They want that for GT.

And I didn’t even want Chadwell that badly! Just hate seeing people throw around stupidity related to “option football”
 
Interesting thing about Chadwell, he is touted as a great coach; but those same folks excuse his last two blow out losses on either his players quitting on him because they knew he was leaving, or his not have another QB remotely ready to play. No one seems to want to remember the blowout loss to ODU mid-season because it doesn't fit either of the explanations.

I think it is a mediocre, lazy hire. I was expecting something better after what Cabrera told us, but it is what it is. I'm fully prepared for.500 ACC seasons with losses against UGA. I won't even be mad. I'm hoping for more, but it takes more than "the players play hard for him" to convince me. He is an upgrade over clown, but who isn't? I wish him the best for Tech's sake.
