Dodged A Bullet

If that was "dodging a bullet" then was the hiring of CGC then? I don't consider not hiring any of those candidates "dodging a bullet"

Whose hunt was a bullet dodged in 2018. Problem was we dodged it and ran right into another one.

True statement. I don't think the Marines have bullet of that caliber. Hopefully admin will put the safety on the gun next time they want to execute a contract like that.

It’s be interesting to see a synopsis of the ‘greatest hits’ related to the CGC hiring, and compare those to some of the recent ‘greatest hits’ associated with the CBK hire.

You don't know what pick Key was. You don't know who was offered and who wasn't. We have heard who was offered, but nobody knows how far any of it progressed.
I do know that Brett Key signed for $2.8 million. And J. Chadwell is getting 4M from Liberty. I do know that GT offered Chadwell, Fritz & Key...I do know that Key was the only one to come to an agreement. I also know that CGC was making 3M plus, more then Key is... You may be correct maybe we offered Key first....SMFH

Can't wait for Chadwell to get his ass fired from liberty and the "A+" hire everyone is giving him turns out to be wrong.

Wait, you know that we offered Chadwell? Do you have a source? That's the first I'm hearing of that.

I don't think I ever even saw a rumor on here that we offered him -- everything I saw indicated we didn't offer him because of staff concerns.

No, I don't. And if we do, I definitely don't think it will be for seven years.

I think Key will slot in at like $3-$3.5 million a year for five years with a reasonable buyout.

His deal is for five years at an average of $3 million a year with a reasonable buyout.

I aas right about something for once!

So official offer? Probably Not. Negotiations with Fritz and Chadwell yep.... I have a GTAA source that they interviewed and couldn't come to an agreement. In writing the only thing you will find is in the abc article below.

From the link Below: Tech struggled to lure a big outside name because of the school's reluctance to guarantee large portions of the contract, with the amount of guaranteed money a nonstarter for some candidates.

If true, I am glad PawPaw Fritz couldn't come to a deal. If the rumor about Chadwell wanting to bring his whole staff is true then he isn't ready for big boy football and was right to go to Liberty. Last thing any P5 school needs is whole staff of good 'Ol boys and a head coach who refuses to make changes and improvements to his staff. That may work in high school football; but it is a recipe for disaster at the FBS level. Combine that with Chadwell's 3 blow out losses and the Chadwell shine has rusted up.

2 others were supposedly interviewed but turned Tech down for one reason or another (supposedly). Lot of conjecture there but either of those 2 guys were far more likely to succeed than Key. If Colorado could hire Deion….one would think Tech could figure out how to. (I think culture had more to do with not even considering him than money did).

Key was a “safe hire” mostly because he’s a “Tech man” and managed to barely exceed insanely low expectations as interim.

His hiring is completely underwhelming and not exciting unless you regularly get boners for “Tech men.”

You aren't fitting into the ST narrative that Key is amazing and is clearly the second coming.

Anyone objectively evaluating the hiring would agree that Tech decided not to field competitive offers in their coaching search and settled for the cheap local guy. Going 4-4 and getting trounced (albeit slightly less trounced) by your rival is the Tech ceiling now. We are officially Vanderbilt football now. We have stopped trying.
