Does This Sound Familiar?

I wonder if Dabo is no longer at the top of their list now that he too is in decline?
Their #1 target is going to be Kirby. If Kirby says no, then I imagine it'll have to be Lane. There's no way Lane doesn't turn that down but if he does, I could see Dabo being the guy then.

Cap recruiting expenditures. All professional sports have some sort of salary cap that prevents the rich from outbidding the poor, and even then in cases like MLB, there are still inadequacies on payrolls. It’s fine to visit a recruit and sell him/her on your program, but once that’s done it’s done, it’s up to the ‘student athlete’ to then make a decision on what college he/she wants to attend.

Professional sports in the US are only legally allowed to have caps because they have collectively bargained agreements with the players. The first step of any labor dispute in professional sports is that the union dissolves and then the players sue the league for antitrust violation due to the caps.

In fact, the only major sport in the US which has operated with a cap but no union is college football -- schools have agreed to cap the compensation they offer to players. However, the Supreme Court has heavily signaled that this cap will be ruled illegal when it is challenged.

After reading all that I wonder how you feel about the end of prohibition of marijuana which is taking place state by state.
Well, just like my tic comment about prohibition, some good and a lot of bad. The deal I was making about NIL was, when they made the bagmen legal, a LOT more of it will happen (make-up your own mind whether that's good, bad, or mixed). I would vote mostly bad because money is involved.

Kirby to Bama? Why exactly?

Kirby to Bama? Why exactly?
Even back to the Bear days, Bama has always wanted coaches that worked or played for their successful HC's. That's why they went after so many Bear players and coaches, Ray Perkins, Gene Stallings, and Mike Dubose. (Curry was their reason for not deviating from the Bear pipeline) Bama fans will want someone who was a part of the Saban dynasty and who better than the most successful assistant that Nick has had.

It's obvious why Bama (or any other program) would want Kirby.

Why would Kirby want to leave U[sic]GA?

Why would Kirby want to leave U[sic]GA?
That's going to be the question because Bama is probably the only program in the country that can out pay UGA in terms of money and resources. The other question that is going to come up relatively soon is whether or not Kirby decides to make the jump to the NFL, because I'm sure that he's going to be on the radar of a few teams.

Gibbs can eat öööö and howl at the moon. He quit on his team with two games left in the season.
And yet CBS has him listed as a late first round pick in their latest mock draft. He's gonna get paid. IF he stays healthy. Which now seems to be his Job One at Bama.

It would be an ego thing for Kirby to go to Alabama. As far as money UGA can pretty much match what Alabama would offer. The prestige of being the next in line from Bear to Saban to Kirby might start messing with his head.

I would buy that more if U[sic]GA wasn't his alma mater. Dominating Bama at U[sic]GA is probably better for his ego than leaving his alma mater to go coach them at Bama.

Anything is possible but if he were to want to move on, I think he'd go somewhere oustide the SEC. Bringing, say, Texas back to prominence would be more appealing to his ego for a variety of reasons.

The whole system needs to be blown up. College football should require that someone gain admission to the school first and make the football team second. Putting this in reverse is the source of all ills.

I don't disagree. However, it seems like many of the schools that are within a 7 hour radius of us simply exist to field a football team. Pretty low percentage of the players taking advantage of a (meaningful) degree opportunity.

Maybe just separate the team from the schools completely officially and let it be true semi-pro ball.

But why would Kirby go ?

Ambition. Ego. The allure of proving yourself at the highest level of football. Winning a championship with 100 million people watching.

Kirby is a uga grad but he probably isn't dumb enough to believe his success is owed to anything other than procuring superior players in an era of unchecked competitive imbalances and not to his prowess with X's and O's.

lol. There are plenty of fans who truly believe they could step in and do a better job than current NFL head coaches just by delegating and eliminating stupid decisions. Even moreso after a guy with no coaching experience beyond high school just won a game in the NFL.

No doubt some college coaches have no interest in the NFL, but it's not because they think they don't have the coaching prowess. There is zero chance any successful P5 coach is looking at the NFL and saying, "I'm not good enough to succeed there."
