Duke post game thread

It means he needs to stop holding the ball so damn long and when he does hold it, to step up INTO the pocket so outside pressure goes behind and past him.
Not sure about our pockets being dependable enough to step into, but it's true he was holding the ball too long before tucking and running, except for the Duke game where he did a much better job of taking off before it was too late. Showed some of his nifty running ability, too.

when the dude takes off he's darn fast the first 15 yards.

He was holding it too long considering our line. He did a much better job against Duke knowing when to bail.

Almost like with a bunch of time off to practice, he learned and got better. Not a dig at you, but there was so much comment before like "can't believe we're sticking with Sims, he has no pocket presence!"

Pocket presence, like so much else in football, is an acquired trait. Failure is the father of success, and playing behind our offensive line has a silver lining - it provides for a lot of teachable moments. Really looking forward to seeing Sims' improvement on display these final three games.

Yeah, some have this impression that players don’t get better. That if they suck as a freshman or don’t see the field then they have no hope of getting better. It is strange because it is contrary to everything known about football programs. They use the exceptions like Gibbs as evidence for their stance when there are many more examples on the other side.
