I'll explain it this way. We will probably sign around 14 guys today. The last time we had a class that small, we ranked 84th in the country. https://georgiatech.rivals.com/commitments/football/2013

We have good quality this year, but we don't have the quantity to have a top 25 class. We could have added some filler if we just wanted to pop a ranking, but we actually trimmed some borderline guys out instead. We will make some additions through the portal, of course, but those won't count toward our ranking.

The thing is... with our previous staff, we had classes ranked 36th-50th and that was with 20+ kids in the class. If we have over 20 in this class it will be top 25, possibly top 20. You have to account for transfers now, and many teams don't sign the full 20. The ratings system should probably be updated to either count all players, or count less than 20 since so many teams won't sign 20 now.
 
We are most likely going to be signing fewer HS recruits and more transfers (again). Some of our transfers have worked out but more of them haven't. But the team needs immediate impact so we're kinda forced. The TE can really run. Hoping for a couple of big adds on the OL.

The portal is free agency now. If we sign 15-18 and fill out with established players from the portal, I will be pleased.

A couple? Aim for 5 OL transfers just in case. Play the numbers game. Process non performers. Paying a medical scholarship because someone has a persistent hangnail is way cheaper than buying out coaches.

I believe at one time we had 19 commits ranking us at 24th. That changed last week but that is water over the dam at this point. If we are going to make an appreciable improvement to our talent level on the field through the portal, we are going to have to do a better job of evaluating the talent we bring in through that avenue.

We had 18 at one point and many knew at the time that 2 of those were not going to be on there in the end.

It is funny reading some of your post and how excited you are with each LOI, when the last few weeks y’all have done your best to run our commitments off.

Two different sets of posters. The ones posting in this thread showing excitement are not the same ones dumping in the coaches and players in every thread.
