Expansion

Why drag this out another day? If they had the votes, it would already be done.
You answered the question. They don’t have the votes. The fact that Cal, Stanford are willing to join for what Apple was going to pay the P12, and SMU is willing to come in for free provides $55-60 million to the pot to distribute however the ACC sets fit. Not sure why this doesn’t satisfy FSU‘s performance distribution request. Not sure why UNC, NCSU are still supposedly in the “No“ on expansion column. Clemson feels tied to FSU like OU to Texas. Not vocal but in agreement.

None of these schools are Texas.

Closest is UNC. GT AD (and Clemson and FSU) better know what he is thinking and make sure they are friends.

calford wants decision by weeks end? i just switched my vote to no too, if they still think they're in a position to make demands.
I think it has to do with merging the 4 remaining PAC schools (Stanford, Cal, WSU, Oregon St) into the MW to form a new Pac-16, which would likely become the new version of ”Pac 12 after dark” 10:30-11 pm est games. Stanford may still go Indy for football if this happens, but that’s the next domino if the ACC deal isn’t finalized.

Look at the other news from yesterday. The CFP committee is now waiting on the ACC to finalize expansion. Have a strong feeling, the P5 champion component will be removed. It will end up with the top 11 regardless of conference + the best G5 team at #12. The end of the P12 has credited the open door to ratify the agreement starting in 2024.

Then in another 4 years once the money and TV ratings prove there is viewership and then it will expand to 20 plus and we’ll finally have a meaningful December for sports outside of regular season NFL and NBA games. I can’t wait.

It's sad to see teams siding with UNC. If years in the ACC has taught us anything, it is to not side with UNC on a vote.

Vote “no”. Why add three teams counting on ESPN dollars to make it profitable for conference schools when ESPN will not even be carried on cable anymore if Spectrum gets its way. College football continues to self destruct.

The PAC-12 is actually pretty strong this year. Tons of teams in the Top 25. Utah just ripped up an SEC blue blood. It’s a shame their commissioner couldn’t keep it together. College football would have been better for it. You reap what you sow.

Thamel reporting ACC has voted to invite all 3. Just showed up on the bottom line on ESPN as breaking news.

The only way I think this got the green light is the ACC had to make some promises to FSU, Clemson and others to open the door for them to leave. In other words, they will make some accommodations on the GOR, exit fees, etc. I think this is a move to preserve the conference while losing the programs thinking there are greener pastures to go to.

I see no other real reason for FSU/Clemson to vote in favor. The final vote counts will be interesting if they release it.

Apparently only NC State flipped.

Not sure why there is some blowback about the move. NCSU flipping secures the ACC from folding now through 2036. That’s what most people wanted. It allows GT ample time now to build back the brand in the ever changing landscape of NIL, etc.
