Expansion

What leverage did ACC have?
ND apparently led the charge for this expansion because it benefits them to have one of their yearly opponents as now an ACC member.

I’d guess that it ND now gets to count Stanford as one of its required acc games which is a net loss for everyone else.

The ACC should have also told ND to join or the ACC will support a no path to playoffs option for independents at the next playoff committee meeting.

I think the ACC goes for 20 first out of the big conferences.

The other fun part will be realigning the conference rivals thing. If you thought GT having Louisville and Wake as permanent “rivals” was bad, just wait until we drop on of those and get one or more of the new three as our assigned “rival.”

We need to change the pod format and scheduling model. Two teams getting to play SMU every year while two others have to play Clemson every year is about as big of a gap as I can imagine.

I don’t believe many people like anything coming out of the ACC anyway. To change things for GT we have to start winning and drawing eyeballs. Until GT can do that, we are exactly where we need to be.

Also, even though the Big 10 and Big 12 have proven names don't mean anything, Atlantic Coast is now truly meaningless as a name. What should the conference new name be?

Disagree. It's Stanford taking a bullet for the rest of the conference. SMU and Cal too, to a lesser extent. Currently, you were going to get ND just about every other year. If Stanford plays them annually, that means there are only five other games to schedule amongst a larger pool of teams. So, you see them about once every 3-4 years, which opens up out of conference scheduling for everyone and takes a perennial Top 20 team off your schedule. It will be interesting to see if ND made any concessions to get the deal done too.

I’d really rather have taken all 4 PAC 12 refugees to make a west coast pod, which might mitigate some of the travel difficulties depending on how we structure the scheduling.

I’m curious how much money we’re really making off of the Notre Dame arrangement. I wish we would just man up and tell them to GTFO. Letting them be a partial member with a full vote is embarrassing.
