Expect Big Player Shift Next Season

Y’all are just old öööös, the city is fun when you’re young.

It's great for a young professional. I definitely felt I was missing out on a lot of things as a student though compared to my friends at other schools. Going to visit them felt like going to an amusement park.

The portal has transformed the way recruiting will be going forward and will be a big advantage in situations with coaching changes. Look no further than Tennessee who lost 30+ players in the portal in 2021, but picked up a bunch of experienced players from that same portal and formed a roster that does well at what these coaches want. I have no doubt if, say, Chadwell comes in that he'll have no trouble filling any holes using the portal.

Chadwell is a system guy. Not a big name guy like Deion but I agree with your point.

Apparently his talent evaluation is highly respected amongst his peers. Coaches are adding transfer prospects to their boards based off Intel that Chadwell is looking at them.

I'm beginning to think that Atlanta is not as big of a draw for coaches or recruits then we think it is.

Hell, I don't even like going to Atlanta.
It's weird that anyone ever thought it was, but it seems like every college program in/near a major city has to go through a phase where it tries to associate itself with the city (with a spectacular lack of success) and then gives up on it. Northwestern did it with Chicago, Rutgers did it with NYC, and now we did it with Atlanta. I guess UCLA is probably up next?

The thing with Atlanta is that the actual population of the city is microscopic- NO ONE actually lives in Atlanta and the few random hipsters/ghetto people/rich gay guys who do have zero connection to GT. The city population is on par with that of Tulsa and anyone interested in sports will be sated by the Braves/Hawks/Falcons. There's a huge difference between being a large metropolitan area and being a big city, and ATL is the former. Most recruits would probably run out of fingers before they finished counting how many times they actually stepped foot in the city limits while growing up...it would be one thing if we were in a Miami situation and were the only major program within driving distance of a recruiting hotbed, but we're not. There are like 8 elite programs that are all functionally as close to the recruiting base as we are.

And I say this as a CoA resident. Trying really hard to tie GT to Atlanta in branding was so cringe

Well, if nothing else when Tech recruits the "Atl" area guys at least we are close by for parents which can be huge.

Watching the SMU-Tulane game… looks like the Mustangs are trying to be Dallas’s team.

According to the sports talking heads this AM, a LOT of Tech players will be hitting the portal at the end of the season. Looks like whomever we hire as the next HC will have yet another re-building process. Oh goodie goodie. Something I'm not looking forward to.
Not a bad thing as it seems we have a bunch of overrated 4 and 5 star players no one else wanted. With the right HC (Jamey Chadwell) we could be bowl eligible faster then most think.

There was a moment when we had a path to the ACC championship.
There was a moment when every team in the division had a path to the ACC championship. That’s not the same thing as actually having a chance.

Player portal to where?

Which players are going to another P5 program to immediately plug in and compete for a starting position at a Bowl Bound P5 program?

We certainly have a few top tier players. But I don’t see any of them automatically taking over a position at OSU, Bama or Clemson.

If I’m on this roster on a scholly I certainly take advantage of the best thing I can get— a diploma from a top 25 academic college in the world, and hope for a rebuild and another year to make my case to the NFL under a new HC-ing staff.

Most of our players were only lightly recruited. We’re not a talent laden team. How many of them are going to easily find other full-ride opportunities, particularly with great academics, if they leave? Nationwide, the stats are showing that a very large number of the names that went in the portal last year never found a new opportunity…..

You’re a gay ghetto hipster.

Gibbs, Ivey, Domineck…we probably win the coastal with those 3 and a healthy QB room this year.

We have the 5th most talented roster in the conference right now. Our defense is actually reflecting that a bit this year. It can get significantly worse.

But the juice? I was told there was juice.
