Fans please do not throw items on the field

I think you would know about it if anyone was hit in the stands. It would take MAYBE three hit fans to erupt the situation.

I sat in the lower east stands once when that was part of the student section during a UGA game. I nearly got hit with an empty bourbon bottle, and we had dog biscuits raining on us for an extended period of time. I don't remember any of us charging up to the upper east section to erupt the situation though.

I've also seen people get physically assaulted at a UGA game in Athens, in that instance the drunk UGA students were escorted out of the stadium by police only to return in the second half.

Hey, anybody here remember the time the UGA fans at an Auburn game had to be dispersed with a fire hose?:laugher: That was funny.

I was there Saturday and was discusted that our crowd (students or not) would do that! I don't care how the game was going, there is absolutely no need for any kind of nonsense like that - it was an embarrassment.

We talk constantly about having higher standards than the dirtbags down the road, but the dirtbags down the road and everybody else around the country saw different on Sat. night.

Who ever threw stuff should be ashamed of themselves and been thrown out of the game, never to attend another home game this year.

Fans should never throw things. What makes it worse is that the fans were apparently throwing things at the officials. To throw things at people who can barely see is despicable.

I'm not sure they "had to" be hosed, but it was indeed funny. And it would be again.

It's not really funny at all. It shows a complete lack of class. The time it gets out of hand and costs us a 15-yard penalty is gonna suck.

Gotta agree with Troy on this one. I've notice the conduct of some GT fans has become pretty low life. I've been attending games at BDSGF since the 50's and I've seen a DEFINITE decline of fan behavior. We can make all the excuses over it that we want to but this type attitude of fans will bite us in the butt down the road. We're in the west stands and directly behind us, there's the foulest mouthed group ever, led by the loudest of the group. The "F" word as well as "GD" etc were in just about every thing he said. Forget calling a security man, he was standing only 10 feet away and heard all of it and never did a thing.

People have for years had their drinks and will continue, but when their drinks make watching a game a nightmare for those around them, it's time to make some changes. If one can't hold their liquor, they don't need to be drinking it. Falling over other fans, vomitting and loud cursing does not make for a good time for the ones sitting nearby.

Whenever my wife would not be able to attend, I would bring a grandson or just give the tickets to one of our children to take one of their children in our place. Not anymore!!

We can laugh this thing off if we like and we can pretend that it's no problem but it won't get any better if the administration does not step in and take control. Was a day when a fan could slug someone for being so obnoxious. That day is gone now, the GT administration has it's work cut out and had better get at it.

I remember talking my way out of being escorted from Sanford Stadium club level back during the '92 GT/UGA game. GT fumbled on the 1 yard line and some fat, drunk and stupid UGA fan got right in my face and barked like an idiot. I mean a half-hour before this incident this guy was stumbling and falling over people that were nearby.

We exchanged some 'harsh' words and evidently someone sitting around us called security and tried to get me tossed --just me though --not 'Rodney Redneck the fat-drunk-stupid UGA fan.'

After explaining the situation, security let me stay, but under one condition --I had to apologize to those sitting around me. I remember flashing them the UGA class ring on my finger --which coupled with the GT gear I was wearing probably made them loathe me all the more.

Sadly, poor behavior seems to be a sign of the times, not limited to some of our fans. We all have stories about other fans acting poorly. Nevertheless, I wish we would refrain from throwing anything on the field for reasons that should be completely obvious. Our fans need to clean up the language, too. Georgia Tech Gentlemen do not curse in the presence of ladies and children. We should be policing ourselves.

Do you think we'll be mentioned in Warren St. John's new book?

We have to police ourselves. Peer pressure is the best deterrent to the kind of fan behavior that gets bad press. Drinking and rowdiness has been and will be part of college football. But, when you can't hold your beer/liquor and start being profane in front of kids and ladies and continue to throw things after the crowd has been warned, your friends need to take you out.

If Tech football has become a place where someone would not take kids, we need to rethink crowd behavior.
