Freddie: We're confused

I nominate this for the Ramblin' Wreck 2015 Official Gif:

OH MY GOD WE"RE BURNING ALIVE!!! NOOO I CAN"T FEEL MY LEGS!

Sounds about right.

So if the defensive shifts prior to the snap are what is wrecking us, how did Navy handle the ND defense? Navy knew what was coming from our game film, so did they get beat scheme wise, or just physically dominated in the second half? I honestly don't know because I didn't see the game; but if they were just as confused as our team that wouldn't bode well for this offense. If Navy was just physically beat, then there is hope.

Navy has a team with over 100 dudes on the roster, all of which are smart, and any of which who are on the field have studied the reads and practiced them for at least two years.

In the end, Navy can and should be able to run a more complex version of what we run in any given year.

On the other hand, I don't think Navy gets to redshirt anyone or take graduate transfers. But my question was if Navy was confused by the ND defensive shifts.

Negative on the 'they all are smart.' Navy has a huge pipeline of dummies that go to NAPS (Naval Academy Prep School) to try to prepare them for college. Real talk... it is nothing more than a feeder program in order to get enough minorities and athletes into the school. You would be shocked at the number of sub 1000 SAT midshipmen getting a $200,000+ education from the taxpayers.

NAPS is essentially a redshirt year. It is just a full year of remedial courses and working out. They even have a football team on the campus (in Newport, RI).

Reported.

But the statistics tell a different story. Nearly 80 percent of the 52-member Navy lacrosse team came through the Naval Academy Prep School; for returning football lettermen, the percentage is around two-thirds.

Which brings us to today’s subject: the military academies. Incredibly, even the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy and West Point, charged with training the next generation of military leaders, systematically abandon their standards and admissions processes when a good athlete is within reach. Their highly questionable enrollment practices make one wonder whether the academies care as much about their mission these days as they do about winning football games.

Would I be in error to say that the pistol offense (in the Vad era) gave us better results than our "bread and butter" triple option this year?

I dream of us being able to run some Oregon-like plays. We have the speed, but not sure if we'd ever do something like that. The defenses would never know which side of the field you are going to run the ball on.

I think it helps to have a heisman winning quarterback and an o-line that blocks well.

There is nothing here being discussed that a good solid block would not solve. Our problem is we are not executing the blocking necessary to make the plays work. A lot of it is desire and effort. Some of it is other stuff. Just make your öööö block and we can get this train back on the track.

Go Jackets!

The multiple losses give me hope that we are just not executing and we shouldn't burn the entire offense to the ground.

That being said, I say we practice the run and shoot all season but don't let anyone know until the Georgie game. That'd be hilarious if it worked.

this is where the train is right now:

Well öööö. Someone should tell the team it is this easy.

Just try harder.

You should call in a few hours on his radio show and ask why he hasn't asked the team to 'show more desire and effort.'

If you listen to the players and the coach, they talk about just going out there and everyone doing their jobs and it should work. Not too far from what Jerry's saying. So if you listen to all that bs then as a fan I'd say, oh they just have to go out there and block and not miss their assignments.

Which is all they keep saying.

Sounds easy. We should have this fixed by Wednesday.

I have some hope that our problems are closer to the above (even if it is "coach speak") than to the "sky is falling, the blueprint has finally been found" stuff circulating on the boards of late.

It's seldom one thing that contributes to a team being good or bad. Last year, a lot of things came together for us - good & experienced players, a pretty favorable schedule, a lot of bounces that went our way, sneaking up on some teams after a few down years. This year, a lot of things are working against us - inexperienced players, a brutal schedule, not getting bounces, not sneaking up on anybody.

Part of it's talent - Clemson and ND, in particular, probably have better players than we do. (Especially given where we're at with injuries.)

Part of it's experience - we're playing some true freshmen and some other guys without much playing time to this point. (Obviously this doesn't apply to the OL.)

Part of it's mental - we got big headed after last year, when we got a ton of breaks and things really went our way for the most part, and everybody talked about how great we were during the preseason and first couple of weeks of the season. Same thing happened in 2010. Now we're starting to get into the finger pointing and "what's left to play for" part of the season, given how poorly things have gone, which exacerbates the mental issues.

Part of it's execution - guys not doing their jobs, guys trying to do too much to make up for other guys not doing their jobs.

And yeah, maybe part of it is teams defending against us differently/better than in the past. Normally, we might struggle but ultimately find a way to move the ball. This year, because of all of the above, we haven't been able to do that. We can't block inside (mental, execution). We can't block outside (talent, experience). We're not passing very well (talent, experience, execution), allowing teams to key on the run, which has struggled (all of the above). It doesn't mean we'll never be good again, it just means that this year is going to be rough and the coaches have a lot of work to do with this team.

Teams right now are willing to give up the 3 to 4 long pass plays a game to control the 5 to 8 yard space at the line for the other 70+ plays. How many long passes have we hit on the last 4 weeks, 3 maybe 4 so Ds are playing the odds and winning.

This is absolutely correct.

Found a couple of videos linked elsewhere that illustrate just how confused we are with regard to blocking.

Watch the blocking on the DE at the top of the screen in this play. The OL and the AB take each other out and the DE goes straight to the QB. 3 man rush and we couldn't pick it up.

I watched this one multiple times, focusing on each DL player. Hypnotic. We blocked 1 of 4 of them. The 2nd guy from the top is the most ridiculous.

That vine hurts. We triple teamed one lineman and double teamed a linebacker. If that's not confused, I don't know what is.

Their left DE just throws Joe to the ground like ... well, like one of their receivers dumping DJ.
