Game day advice for first timer

Let me chime in a bit here:
1. What part of town are you staying? That will influence our answers.
2. GT fans are great people. You shouldn't have any issues.
3. Don't go to the varsity. You don't need to eat öööö on a bun. Go to the Vortex in midtown (be prepared to wait a little bit. All guests must be 18+).
4. The best game day tradition only happens after a GT win. The football team will gather in the end zone and sing the fight song. After they leave, the band + students do some kind of crazy dance. It's a spectacle. Definitely worth watching/?participating?
5. Enjoy game day and welcome to Atlanta!
Are you ööööing kidding. Don't go to the Varsity but go to Vortex? You're retarted.

The Vortex sucks.

Cypress Street Pint and Plate would be my recommendation. Sit outside. Pretty day

Going to the Vortex would be insensitive to the victims of Irma.

Other than the final score, we had a great time Saturday. We got to the hotel about 2 AM Saturday morning. Got up, had a quick breakfast then headed to Yellow Jacket Alley at 10. We enjoyed the pre-game activities. We were able to catch our daughter before they marched to the stadium. We literally hung out in the Hammock Hive. Then we watched the the Wreck drive through and the YJMB perform at the Campanile.

Driving into town Friday evening, we found out some old friends from Alabama who now live in Florida were in town as evacuees. Inspired by your AD, we gave them our club seats and I picked up some cheap seats on StubHub near the front of 205L on the 45 that gave us a great vantage point for the halftime show. Ha, we forgot to bring sunscreen along and the sun roasted the back of my neck and tops of my legs.

After the game, we milled about for a while and headed back to the hotel to watch my Longhorns. At that point we were tired and did not feel like driving out. We picked up some restaurant info from the front desk. If y'all don't know there is a new BBQ place that has opened up within the last month in an old fire station on Marietta. It is called 4 Rivers Smokehouse (https://4rsmokehouse.com/locations/atlanta/). You really should check it out some time.

4 Rivers was maybe a 3/4 mile walk from the hotel. They have a walk up counter. I believe you can order downstairs or upstairs. Downstairs has a small inside seating area near the counter and there is nice patio seating outside the firehouse door. Upsatiars they have more seating and TVs, as well as deck outside. The immediate view there is not so great, but there were nice views of the skyline further on.

We had a brisket sandwich and spicy sausage sliders. It was very good. While waiting on our order, I noticed a sign on the table that mentioned a free beer on game day if your were in your game day attire. When the manager, Brian, brought our food I asked if my JSU shirt qualified and he did not hesitate to let me know it did. I selected a Belgian and he brought me a can of Cadence from Reformation Brewery in Woodstock, Georgia. I thought it was a nice beer.

Thanks for the advice and good luck on the rest of your season!

Glad you had a good time in spite of the score. Thanks for coming to the game and posting here. I'll root for JSU unless they're playing UTC.

Awesome! You were just one section from me. I'm well tanned so I don't get sunburned easily, but my basement-dwelling son was wearing some jeans with ripped knees, and he developed a really funny looking set of sunburns on his legs.

If you had sat in club, your face would've been roasted, so consider yourself lucky!

FWIW the Marching Ballerinas, and the band in general, did a great job. Loved their uniforms too, with the pompoms on the boots. I think that was the most xylophones I've ever seen accompany a traveling marching band.

"Don't go to the varsity"? Are you mad? The V is a landmark and is much better than that bearded-hippie overpriced crap at the Vortex. The Vortex is for neckbeards and pot smoking hippies.

I may have to try The Varsity this season, if we can get a non noon game. I haven't eaten there in probably 5 years before a game, maybe more. The years all blend together when you grow old.
I remember I ate there before the National Dorsey dominated Julius Peppers game.

When I come down for the Homecoming game against Wake, I'm thinking I'll try it the day before the game just in case there's any gastrointestinal reaction ...

I've got to ask. Whose idea was it for the JSU band to come into the stadium singing "rocky top"?
