Good Morning, this is your wake up call

I think you'll find that he will want to recruit the best student athletes he can find on both sides of the ball. A lot of what happens will depend on his staff. I know that Sewak is coming to work on the offensive side of the ball. Bohannon is already in Atlanta and working the recruiting angles.

If he retains Giff as recruiting coordinator, I think you'll see a big push for big, fast and athletic players on D. You'll also probably see slightly smaller OL and skill players who are really fast. At GSU, all of his QB ran 4.45 or better, and he will find a QB in that mold in the next class or two.

Keep in mind that none of these HS commitments are real until the kid signs on the dotted line. There's still time to change some minds of kids who are committed elsewhere. The staff needs to keep those already committed to GT in the fold, and work on some that they really feel fit the system.

You'll find out a lot in the next few weeks when the final official visits take place. At that time you can get a handle on the direction the signing class might be headed.

Some commits elsewhere that come to mind and fit the mold....Ralph Bolden, Bacarri Rambo, Xavier Avery....:fingersx:

PJ's last three defensive squads at GSU were pretty good. They averaged giving up 15 ppg and less than 300 ypg in total offense. The offenses on those three teams averaged 40.6 ppg.

To be honest with you, those GSU teams were so much faster than his Navy squads, it's not even funny. If he can find a QB who can throw it well enough to keep defenses honest, look out.

I'm sure that GT fans would be happy with that kind of performance on both sides of the ball.

they all need to cut their hair

I hope CPJ doesn't dwell on insignificant issues like hair length. If you look around in 2007/8, you will noticed that most, if not all, successful programs do not worry about hairstyles. Fight the battles that matter.

I do agree that it isn't a racial issue.

I understand where you are coming from but when you have respect for your appearence and how you look representing GT then it does become an issue. Maybe i'm old school but it seems a lot of people on here like o'leary and the way he ran his ship. Why are we changing now?

Mover, tote up another vote on the side of cut the hair, bolt some steel stiffeners onto the spine, and fit up some flange-mounted brass testicles. After the first 90-yard drive by the third-place team from a waek conference, simple pride (personal and team)should have guaranteed that it wouldn't happen again....

I agree GOL told people they had to cut their hair.

it had nothing to due with cutting their hair or hairstyles.

it had everything to do with discipline, uniform appearance, blue collar attitude, team attitude not growing your hair out to be noticed.

I can't wait for discipline, accountability and toughness to be back on the flats.

While your talking about haircuts, Jon Tenuta could use one of those. I don't see how hair styles impact discipline or professionalism.

Well, Tenuta isn't a part of the new staff, and most people who have played the game understand the discipline and professionalism measures that certain coaches bring to a program. It has something to do with the big team, little me philosophy that Coach Erk Russell preached so hard.

PJ may have mellowed in his years, but I'd be surprised if he has. Obviously the midshipmen at the Naval Academy had a dress and grooming code as part of the enrollment.

FWIW

GOL was adamant on no facial hair or hair past the collar... i think one player on UCF has dreads and had to prove to GOL he was rastafarian and it was religious..

the old "my way or the highway" philosophy at its finest... GOL used to tell us "this aint a democracy men."

i think this approach helps set the "discipline" tone

Wake up people. Everyone with the wild "look-at-me" hair needs a damn haircut. Just because everyone with that Rasta hair is black doesn't make it a racist comment. You think if Mike Cox had Bob Marley hair that we wouldn't be saying the same thing? Think again.

That's the first thing. Quit posing.

The second thing is play hard every down. I didn't play football so I don't speak with the experience that some others do but I saw players today taking plays off that I thought were above that.

I worry that we are in for another Curry-to-Ross transition where some deadwood will need to be purged. So be it.

Like JD said, there are some folks riding the scholarship train that are either going to have to get it in gear or move on to other things.

Man, I wish fridgemover could at least be a special advisor to the OL. But I'll wait 'n see what our new OL coach can produce.

But this insinuation that objections to the individual expressions of hair and/or tats are racist are foolish and misdirected and will not go unchallenged.

gtfannbama: sick of soft, DELUSIONAL gt fans

again...you will not understand because you adopted GT. This is not true of all the faithful that adopted GT...most "get it". We are not asking for saints...and I will not enter the hair argument...just a higher standard.

plus...
refrigeratormover is not just a GT "fan". I am sure he got a chuckle out of the "delusional" comment. Myself...I think the opinion of one of the top five or six OL's to ever play at Georgia Tech matters.

fwiw....my top GT OL's in no order would also include Billy Shaw, Billy Shields, Bill Curry, David Lutz, and Kent Hill.

hair style has what to do with performing? please tell me with an intelligent answer, and not some "gt should have class" bs. u guys need to get with the program, it's not '64

You're missing the point man! It's about discipline! When I walked in to CPJ's press conference I was amazed at the lack of respect the football players gave to the alumni and others there. Wouldn't give up their seat, sprawled out so people had to walk around them and the thing that pissed me off the most was they stayed seated while everyone had the respect to CPJ to stand and welcome them, and yes one of them had long blond hair.

IT'S ALL ABOUT DISCIPLINE!

dude STFU

what does hair style have to do with winning?

honestly, can u answer that? seriously, dig deep, find some angle to make a valid point or argument and explain to me how the hairstyles of our players have anything to do with performing.

Ok Bama fan, I'll try and explain it to your ignorant self. The guys that wear the long dreadlocks, and long hair are trying to draw attention to themselves. It is individualism vs. team concept. Will a clean haircut make a guy a better player, maybe and maybe not; but will it make him more of team player? In most cases yes.

to who?

u, your grandmother, hivered, rm, and 1gt?

grow up, this is 2007 (08), not '64

gtfannbama: sick of soft, delusional gt fans

Grow up yourself Bama fan, if you were a little more mature and slightly more intelligent you would know lots of people wore long hair in '64 as sign of rebellion against society.

Go to a few white collar job interviews with long dread locks or long hair and let us know how it works out for you. In fact, don't shave or otherwise groom yourself. Keep telling yourself it's 2008 and it's all about you.

I was not there...but that is certainly disappointing to hear. Of course, giving up seats and opening doors seems to be things of the past...but it does not have to be that way. Heck...in the biz/corp. world...I had a woman get mad at me because I opened a door for her!!!...good grief!!!

I agree with you though...they should have given up the seats. It's the "little things" like that which make a difference in the overall culture of the program.

I will throw this out....the players have always been gracious to me...and particularly to my kids. Tashard Choice has gone out of his way on multiple occasions to speak to my son...as well as Calvin when he was there...and many others. I have also been impressed with the support they have shown the fellow GT student with leukemia.

Also the kids who come by our tailgate will stop and talk to us and are very nice. Maybe the timing of the press conference and exams had the kids minds elsewhere. I'm not going to hold it against them but would have like to seen some courtesy on their part.

That would be the some person that got himself tossed from the UGA game for one of the most blatant cheap shots I've ever seen.

that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard

we'll just agree to disagree

That's the dumbest thing you've ever heard?

Have you been hearing the things you've been writing in this thread? You must be hard of hearing.

This hair thing is about discipline and sacrifice. Both of which transcend race and go a long way towards teamwork and success.
