Good Morning, this is your wake up call

Isn't that sort of what Boby Ross did with the team in 1990? Didn't he take them up to the North GA mountains for preseason practice? Or was that a different season that I'm thinking of?

O'Leary took the team to North Ga College for the '96 preseason practices because of the Olympics. Had to get special permission from the NCAA to do so.

it had nothing to do with cutting their hair or hairstyles.

it had everything to do with discipline, uniform appearance, blue collar attitude, team attitude not growing your hair out to be noticed.

This is the best comment yet. This is exactly why these guys are going to cut their hair.

I cannot believe we have a 6 page thread on the merits of forcing the kids to cut their hair.

But then again, this is GT. We can have a 26 page thread on the correct shade of gold.

You're missing the point man! It's about discipline! When I walked in to CPJ's press conference I was amazed at the lack of respect the football players gave to the alumni and others there. Wouldn't give up their seat, sprawled out so people had to walk around them and the thing that pissed me off the most was they stayed seated while everyone had the respect to CPJ to stand and welcome them, and yes one of them had long blond hair.

IT'S ALL ABOUT DISCIPLINE!

Wow. I can't believe this is even debatable. Hell, my grandmother would have slapped each of them silly if she had been there; but I'm a dinosaur...

When I was their age only fags wore colored underwear, much less boxers, and long hair. Unshaved? Long hair? You couldn't get past the home room teacher. God help you if the coach saw your sorry ass...

Yes and unfortunately it is fueled by those who don't understand sacrifice and discipline in a team environment.

You are showing your age 71!

One simple fact and/or opinion:

It's ALL about repect!!!!!!

Wasn't going to pipe in on this conversation but could not help it after reading some of the absurd comments.

IMO, nothing wrong with going back in time and having kids show respect, courtesy, manners and so forth.

Would love to be a fly on the wall in that first team meeting. Things are a changing folks.

Is a haircut really a sign of sacrifice?

Sounds weak to me.

I say we go for forced circumcision or perhaps branding.

Heck in the Japanese mafia they cut off a tip of their finger to show loyalty. I am betting their guys buck up on 3rd and short.

That's what I am talking about!

Thi is the most ridiculous thread I have ever read! Of course our players should show respect and be well disciplined. But for you yo yo's that think that has something to do with hair style this time and day, this is crazy. It is only important if PJ says it is important. He alone will decide how he wants the team to look, dress, and act. It's why we hired him.

Wow! What a thread.

There is absolutely no way mentioning dreadlocks is racist. Quit getting your panties in a wad and try not to be so PC.

Long hair is an indication of soft discipline. That's just the way it is viewed. If you don't like that fact, then you have your head in the sand. Deal with it. When I mentioned this fact 7 years ago when Gailey first came on, I was told on this board that I didn't know what I was talking about. Well, O'Leary understood discipline, and no one on his team had long hair. No one in the armed forces has long hair, and I think they have an idea about discipline, cohesiveness, and loyalty. I'd love to see us move in that direction, and coach's Navy background will get us there. I love it.

I can't wait for next year. It'll be nice to see a team that actually plays hard for four quarters as opposed to these Gailey/Tenuta teams who quit.

Does this mean that the little finger thing and the branding are definitely out, or or may they still be a CPJ option? As I recall, there were few if any missing pinkie tips on the Middie's front lines. and the digital loss may be determined to impact ball security to some minor degree at the "skill" positions, so I'd respectfully suggest that the practice be confined to special teams only.

And, simply as an aside, I wonder if recruits read Stingtalk.....?

Another vote for dumbass post of the year!

Guys, guys, guys. This has quickly veered completely into the ridiculous. Long hair has nothing to do with discipline, unless there is a rule about hair length. Players who have short hair don't have more discipline than those with longer hair, they simply don't like it long. Of course, I don't know why it would surprise me that a bunch of Tech fans would completely confuse cause and effect.

Listen, I don't care what hair length someone has as long as they can play football. But if PJ wants to set standards for appearance, I'm fine with that as well. He may use it as a way to impose discipline and sacrifice or whatever else you want to tag onto it. It's his prerogative.

Also, to single out dreadlocks specifically is a racist statement no matter how much you want to claim it's not. Perhaps your intent was not to single out black players, but that's the danger of language and not thinking through how people take what you say/write. If you mean long hair, say long hair.

I wouldn't think that long hair was a tactical factor at all until I saw Grant get his hair pulled TWICE on runs with the ball. Now that is the a REAL reason not to have long hair.

Hate to tell you this 71 but whitey tighties are for little boys. Real men wear boxers; but only white or pastel blue (or olive green if you are in the military), none of the fancy print stuff. I don't think the white 'panties for men' briefs were even available on the market until the 1950's.

that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard

we'll just agree to disagree

Well Bama I was basically paraphrasing what I was taught in the military. Part of the reason to shave heads in basic is to thwart individualism. I'm not advocating shaving heads; but I am for uniformity if the goal is team building.

Let 'em have long hair if they want but let's do the Junction Boys thing to them and see what shakes out. If you get through it, you can wear your hair however the Hell you want. Of course, in practice we won't prohibit anybody from pulling you down by your hair.

Maybe they ought to have to earn the long hair. For example, I am a Packers fan. Al Harris should be able to wear his hair long (except maybe he should have to wear it in a bun when he plays Terrell Owens until he actually holds him under 150 yards). Atari Bigbie on the other hand should be forced to wear a fade until he proves something.

Oh, and count me among those who say the anti-dreads = racist theory is stupid. Whatever did black people do before they had their condescending PC white fathers to take care of them?
