Gutsy effort, but we have a real problem on offense.

My problem is that we are not developing QB's well at all. Several we were pleased to recruit have transferred out. The ones we play seem poorly prepared to execute an effective offense.

Well, if you look up Taylor's and Reggie recruiting profiles, they weren't exactly blue-chip QB recruits. So far, our playing QBs have been:

- A transfer from Tennessee who was well-regarded in HS but couldn't perform at UT or here.

- A DB who had no other offers as a QB.

- A one-year starter in high school whose only other real offer came from Boise State.

I also wonder what examples would be given for a well-developed QB. My guess would be they were also well-regarded out of HS.

Now, it would be different if we were like FSU and Miami and got top-5 QBs that went nowhere.

I was at the game, but from the stands I thought TB was ok. He had the two big turnovers but had some big time drops. I thought he threw the ball quicker today.

Bilbo was highly rated and Garner was going to UF before the coaching change. I agree though we haven't had a lot of talented QB's under Gailey.

Still, that's the coaches responsibility too.

Good point. Bilbo wasn't as highly ranked as some buzzoffers say, but he was recruited much more than Reggie and Taylor. Garner was about the same level, but he also didn't seem to work out.

I agree with you about your last point, too. My problems with the staff start and almost end with problems at recruiting before last year.

If you are gonna build your QB position around lightly recruited 'athletes', QB's with little or no div 1 offers, and tranfers from other schools then maybe this is what you get.

Nesbitt scares me a little too. Although more talented than Reggie Ball, he is still very raw.

I am frustrated with how much this position has held us back the past few years.

My point about QB development would be that Joe Hamilton was not recruited as a can't miss prospect at QB because of his size. But, the coaches developed him into a super QB. His improvement from his redshirt freshman year to his junior year was remarkable.

His successor, George Godsey, was also not a can't miss prospect and certainly did not excite many fans in his first few years in the program. But, he was well coached and stepped up beautifully when it was his time to run the offense.

Can you honestly say that the quarterback coaching has been as good the last five or six years as it was with Hamilton and Godsey?

I think our player development at other positions has been excellent under Gailey. I just think offensive coordinating and quarterback development is the glaring weakness.

IIRC, we won the recruiting battle for Joe against Nebraska during their glory years of the mid-90s.

It's also worth noting that Fridge has had serious QB troubles up at Maryland.

Greg Smith is overrated. That other guy is right beehind.

IF we had receivers that WANTED that ball it'd bee a lot different argument. Some guys are too sissy to catch the football unless it's a wide open touchdown play. That does not a receiver make.

We do have lots of room to improve in our passing game. That said, I don't think we are far away from a break out performance...Mike

I really can't blame Taylor for the lack of passing game today. We didn't try throwing it very much and the receivers were useless for the most part. He had like 4 passes that simply had to be caught, including the deep ball to Smith. If those guys make those catches we're having a completely different conversation about Taylor's play IMO.

Why are ya'll bashing Taylor? The last time i checked WE WON, and who gives a flying flip how we got the points, the main thing is we got them. And we beat the 13th ranked team in the country.

Good point, but remember our next opponent, Maryland, just beat the 10th ranked team in the country, so there is natural cause for concern.

Maryland beat a way overrated 10th ranked team, and if we were to beat Maryland with the D, I will not be upset and bash the Offense.

We won 13-3. If we had a smidgen of offense I would have been more satisfied.

Look at how we scored too. We scored 7 points because of a blocked punt and 3 off a fumbled kick off return.

Essentially our offense put together ONE drive for 3 points. Doesn't this worry you?

Our offense isn't as bad as you make it out to be, we did have some really good drives taken away by penalties(look on the bright side it could be worse, ND)

We are something like 110 in passing efficiency and 118 in 3rd down conversions. If we always looked at who is worse than us we would become complacent. I am afraid a lot of Tech folks are now.

ND is horrible, why compare us to them? A better comparison would be VT, whose offense looks anemic as well.

I think we need a complete overhaul of our offense for next year honestly. What we are doing just isn't working. With Nesbitt and Dwyer we need to be a running a spread option offense.
