Haunting words by CPJ...

Sure, if he would have adapted and if Frank Beamer wasn't the biggest bitch in college football to help get the rules changed.
It wasn’t just that. No OL wanted to come here anymore - nor did any DL. All we could get were skill guys - 5’ 9” 175 pound skill guys with no OL to open holes. Once our OL collapsed, game over. Blame Johnson all you want but it’s not like he forgot Xs and Os.

If CPJ came in tomorrow as our OC, we would win 6 games. I attended all of Hawai’is home games in 93 when CPJ was their OC. They didn’t run the option but they curb stomped BYU and Illinois on their way to 10 wins.

CPJ wasn’t a 30 coach, he was a football coach and he was in Ross and Friedgen’s league as an Xs and Os guy.

We had an All ACC G-C-G combo nearly every year CPJ coached. We had OL. It’s like you guys live in a fantasy land.

No we didn't. Stop with the revisionist history. We all bitched about Sewak every ööööing game.
Parker Braun was literally all ACC.

look at this depth chart from Miami 2018 and tel me how many are now in the NFL or drafted:

Beamer and Cutcliff. Kinda says something about the scheme and his play calling that so many coaches cried about rule changes and hard hits. Not to mention how many cried for a bye week b4 playing Tech and frequently got it if located on Tobacco Road or were considered a pre-season favorite. That and scheduling other teams the week before that also ran 3O.
I’m not complaining about them doing those things. It was in their best interests to do so. But it certainly speaks volumes about CPJ and the scheme he ran.
All with the crappiest resources in the conference.

I’ve been a fan since I can remember. I was a student with pepper whom I liked. He just needed help with his defensive talent And facilities. Billy. Lothridge, Billy martin, Kim king , Lenny snow, etc. I’d get very wound up and nervous prior to every game, especially versus Georgia. Now, my anxiety has been resolved. I only watch games to see how and how badly we’ll lose. No anxiety, just an amusement, as I know that the game is lost Before beginning. It actually makes the football season more enjoyable, overall. Raise the money and start a “program” Or disband it and put all the money into basketball, as it’s more sustainable.

The fact that we got stuck in Detroit is on the shoulders of the AD. If I recall, we beat both Miami and UVA that year and had equal or better records than they yet while they got decent bowl trips, we were stuck in Detroit. Should have never come down to that.
Wasn’t it like the day after Christmas too?

Well boys and girls, the CPJ era is a non-factor now related to the present day escapades of GT football.

Brian VanGorder (2006)Edit
Brian VanGorder, a former defensive coordinator at Georgia, was hired to succeed Sewak. In the first of many controversial moves, VanGorder scrapped Georgia Southern's famed triple-option offense and did away with certain traditions, such as the team's arrival at home games on yellow school buses. Erk Russell had also died unexpectedly of a stroke on the eve the first game of the 2006 season after addressing the team on the night before. VanGorder led the team to a 3–8 record, the worst record at the time in the modern era of Georgia Southern football. After his one year as coach, VanGorder resigned to take an assistant coach position at the University of South Carolina, but accepted a job with the Atlanta Falcons five weeks later.

So nobody has supplanted a Paul Johnson offense with anything else but 3 win seasons. Amazing.

I would rather have Collins

Check out 2018 GT-Louisville if you want to see what CPJ thinks of him.

And CPJ left a lot of good players. Four years later some of them are still key contributors.

Yes, the OL had issues. Four years later the OL still has issues.
The DB's he left had talent and actually got much worse.
So much for recruiting and coaching since CPJ left.

Agree. Tariq and Juanyeh looked like 1st-3rd rounders, and then ended up barely making NFL rosters. They 100% regressed under Collins, and DBs were supposed to be his specialty.

Whatever.

Time to devour the transfer portal with Prime Time and get excited about prospects again. Starting with OL.
