Helmet Front Wording Update: “ATL” to “Tech”

How about a rebranding to "Hey guys, we win football games, too!"
Because if we can't get recruits to come here to play, we will need to make sure we schedule more teams like UConn and Jax St. - if we want to win.

If you want to compete with FSU and Clemson, the GT "heritage" ain't gonna get us far.

If you want to cut off Kirby's recruiting pipeline, then yeah winning needs to be a part of that. Had TFG won bigly it wouldn't be as obvious that the marketing was crapola; but he didn't win and the marketing was crapola. The best marketing TFG actually did was selling recruits that "they are building something special at GT". I heard more recruits parrot that line than I heard saying they wanted to 'play for the ATL'. Even top recruits that went elsewhere were saying "they are building something special at GT". Once it became obvious that what TFG was building was a Special S*** Burrito the marketing and recruiting imploded. Now we got posters who can't let it go because they got sweet 404 gear in their closet they can't wear anywhere without people looking at them like they are drinking a Bud Light or something.
Sure, no doubt, but you talk to the vast majority of recruits who controls Atlanta, Georgia Tech might be 20th on their list. However, if you say Austin, it would be UT. LA would be UCLA. Seattle would be Washington. (I know these aren’t the best, but most good schools are in a college town, I was trying to name fairly big cities) Tech needs to be near the top if not at the top of Atlanta. It just sucks that the one guy who tried to make Tech “Atlanta’s School” absolutely sucked at his job and ruined it for everyone.

Gtaa needs to paint the 17th st bridge: "Welcome to Atlanta, home of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets."

OK, so two questions...
1. USC would probably contest UCLA's "control" of LA.
2. If it takes control of a big city to be successful, how do all those major teams from small, college towns do it? Does Alabama's success ride on their control of T-town? How about Penn State, does it ride on controlling State College? How about OU from Norman? Could it be that they have simply won with greater regularity than their major in-state rivals and thus control their state? I look at their helmets and I see the teams' names on them, not an area code.

No, but those states don’t have a power 5 school in a big city. It’s a race for who can control the big city. Alabama aside (Alabama high school football isn’t that great) but they Texas, Louisiana, Cali, Florida, Georgia, etc. in the big high school football states need to control the big cities. That’s why Miami has been huge, especially in comparison to FIU.

Miami is huge (at least historically) because they have a 60-year history, over half of which was high-level winning football with multiple MNCs, while FIU was playing only intramurals.

Howard Schnellenberger turned Miami around by embracing and closing off the city of Miami and its suburbs, like Liberty City. Collins was attempting similar, but for God's sake let's abandon marketing ourselves to Atlanta so we can embrace the days where 220 pounds was a DT.

That would cause at least 6 Nad Licker fans to die hanging off the bridge to paint over it

I teach on the southside of Atlanta. The only kids who talk about Tech are the super nerdy ones..Tech just isn’t a cool place to athletes & would be sidewalk fans.

The 404/ATL stuff was brilliant, but the reason it failed was because of the on the field performances. With some success on the field, that would have brought in more attention and support.

Being a sidewalk fan myself, I like Tech because of my dad & im from Atlanta & not Athens. Majority of would be sidewalk fans care about winning and coolness, & Tech needs to work on both to bring them in.
