How to fix our team

We need to find out why we can't recruit and fix that problem. If the current coaching staff is THE reason we can't recruit then fire all of them and start over; but I seriously think the problem is elsewhere. A revolving door of Defensive Coordinators is not a solution.

The question is: what did Ross, O'Leary, and Gailey do in recruiting to get better talent than what we have now?

With Ross we had some players who probably wouldn't get into UGA without exceptions. I don't know how O'leary was able to do it; and Gailey was hit and miss.

O'Leary was able to work with The Hill to get kids in. Unfortunately they clamped down after all those kids flunked out.

Gailey's classes weren't that great with a couple of exceptions.

I agree that Gailey had some misses when he first got here but you have to admit from 2005 on through 2009 that we were pretty much almost equal talent wise to UGA on the field. From 2010 to now, the talent level is no contest now.

We're not going to beat the mutts again now for a while. It didn't take long for Coach Shart to figure out how to shut this offense down. He'll have the athletes to do it - we're gonna need major adjustments in recruiting and increase in talent to keep up now.

Partner with some recruiting consultants to figure out what will get top athletes on campus. I prefer The Cheetah.

I wonder if Lucas Johnson can run the spread offense that Auburn runs? TQM would make a hell of a slot receiver and possibly play at the next level.

I don't admit that at all what-so-ever. I will admit that from 2005 through 2009 we had some play makers sprinkled into our roster, and right now we don't have those. We haven't had the talent from top to bottom like UGA has had after Richt was named head coach at UGA. Donnan probably had better talent than O'leary; but O'leary was a better coach.

I seriously don't see TQM playing at the next level at any position.

Has GT ever thought of hiring an outside consultant or trying anything external from the program to help fix the brand and recruiting? Seems like we could use some fresh eyes...

How to improve our team...
1. Recruit better athletes. We are not very talented. This is far more important than any X and O deficiencies. You can’t be successful with personnel that is consistently smaller, slower and weaker than your opponents.
2. Schedule as easy as you can. We have to get at least three wins out of conference. We got one this year.
3. Be good on special teams. No excuse for giving away advantage here.
4. Rebuild fan base. Students are not supportive. Tech fund works poorly here, too easy to drop out and buy back in. We need to reward loyalty.
5. Get the team motivated. Hard work in the off season is necessary, harder than our opponents.
Before the season started the smart people were calling this our most talented (albeit, young) team in years.

I remember people getting sick because we had no B-back and no clear quarterback. We expected to be good in the defensive backfield; but the defensive line was still a question mark.

For drafts 2005-2010, GT had 16 players drafted. UGA had 32 players drafted.

1. Execute blocks.
2. Execute blocks.
3. Execute blocks.

Replacing Sewak seems like the most immediate fix.

Also, on O'Leary's recruiting, there was actually a dearth of draft picks 2001-2003. 2001 had zero draft picks. 2002 had two. 2003 had 1. By comparison, 2015-17 had 6 draft picks.

So it's not like O'Leary had insanely great recruiting, at least by draft picks.
