I’ve been following GT football

Quick—name a winning program that doesn’t have money behind it? Obviously, you have to spend/invest that well, which the GTAA has trouble doing.

Colorado was dog doo the last several seasons. Your favorite coach of all time isn’t turning that around after one season. Given the $ invest and the aggressive use of the portal, I’d expect Colorado to much better over the next couple of seasons. What will be interesting to see if whenever the Deion circus leaves town, what happens next. However, Colorado will be in a significantly better financial position to hire the next coach.

I never made the statement that winning programs didn’t have money behind them. And I assure you I never said Deion was my favorite coach of all time.

I'm older so I have you beat in torture years. The hardest thing I have a problem getting my brain around is how terribly soft we are on defense. We have coaches that I know had to be tough as hell to play at the collegiate level, yet they can't seem to get that kind of tenacity passed on to our players, especially on the D side. As a side note, when King is struggling throwing the ball like he did today, why not put Pyron in to maybe change the dynamics? Also, why isn't Dontae Smith getting more carries and where was Singleton yesterday?

All excellent questions. Defense is an attitude in my opinion. Show me a great defense and I’ll show you 11 kids playing with a nasty attitude In most instances. The Smith situation has me completely baffled. I still believe he is our best running back. I’d like to know why we haven’t seen him more.

Might be the answer to half the team not on board, just a guess though.

Couldn’t agree more.
I am likely a touch older than you are, and remember going to games as a young kid at the end of the Dodd era. People discount this, but it contributes to the problem when it comes to fan support; during the Dodd era, Tech fans were all over the state. Sure, there were more UGA fans in smaller towns, but still a lot of Tech fans. Honestly, now if you say you are a Tech fan to people in a town in South Georgia, they look at you like you root for the University of Mars.
I don’t know how this ever gets turned around, outside of finding a way to win big.
And that will take a lot of effort, money, and luck. It will be interesting to see if the big money boosters and the administration have the desire to try.

Well said. But there are only a couple dozen really good coaches out there. Maybe Key is the next up and comer.

We should look at Brent Keys total record as a college head coach. It’s not good. Also, he doesn’t seem like a people person. I don’t see him as a tough hard nosed coach. He comes off more as a whiny jerk. I don’t see that personality working long term, you can be a tough coach or a players coach and be successful. He needs to learn how to act more mature. Every single time you are on tv or radio you are showing the world what you are trying to build. You need people to buy in to your vision.

That goes to my point. Key needs to have every resource available, and the opportunity to build a recruiting base. If in several years he isn’t making headway, then go to other options.

That’s actually a pretty good point. Even if you get basically a whole new team, and influx of money and a brand new upgraded staff, it’s usually going to take a few years.

Who has he been a jerk to? Honest question.

I am talking about the way he sounds. He is trying to be tough but I perceive it as whiny. He has been a jerk on the radio to different people. Some warranted some not.
Some thought CPJ was a jerk but he was actually able to be funny in interviews. George O’Leary could be gruff at times but also could do interviews.
Key really has a tough time explaining himself and has poor PR ability. They need to get him help in the offseason.

We all have to remember this is Keys first HC job. It’s going to take him a while to learn the PR game. He is a GT man through and through but we all have to remember this is his first job at the helm (aside from his 1/2 season audition last year). We are terribly inconsistent but I think he still needs at least 3 years to be fair to him and what he’s trying to implement. I am concerned about our OL play which with Key being an OL guy, that should be the area that should be the most sound you would think. We do need to hire a new DC. Kevin Sherer did a great job in the Miami game but his defenses did break down in situations that they knew were coming (going for 4th downs and defending a scrambling QB) against BC. He’ll have the rest of the year to audition. I still think we need to go to a base 4-3 though but I am pleased with seeing the safety actually line up as a 3rd LB breaking the huddle. Weinke has his work cut out for him to make this game a short memory for King. It was almost like Simms took over his body. Outstanding running but poor decision making in the passing game resulting in game killing INTs.

He tried to go in for the last play on the first half (Hail Mary) and someone told him to get off the field.
My biggest concern from the BC game is multiple plays with only 10 players on the field. That is an inexcusable mistake by the coaching staff.

That is also one of the unforgivable sin in FB. They were supposed to make the personnel grouping substitutions easier after the Miami game. The opposite happened.

Yea. Big skid mark on the new DC early in his tenure.

Yeah you got me by a few years anyways. You are correct on the South Georgia mentality. I just want to be competitive on the national stage again.

Amen, brother.

We used to have guys on defense who'd fly around and make plays. The last good defensive player I can remember is Gotsis, and he graduated in '15. We used to lose multiple great defensive players per year pre 2010ish. Now, it's just pure mediocrity, and I can't remember a player since Gotsis that I was honestly upset about graduating/leaving our program on the defensive side of the ball.

Keion White perhaps. Probably best defensive lineman we've had since Gotsis.

Physically ill? You’ve been telling us all week we were going to lose. And you were right. How does that make you sick?

Anyone that gets “physically ill” from watching kids play a game needs to step back and take a hard look at themselves.
This is correct.

Most people would just go to the games until they’re tired of losing, and become disinterested.

Like we’re doing now.

George O'Leary went 0-3 as an interim HC and went 6-5 and 5-6 in his first 2 full years. Did not make a bowl until his 3rd year when we went 6-5 in the regular season. O'Leary went on to have one of the best post-Dodd HC tenures that launched a 20+ year bowl streak.

I was certainly hoping for a better season than we have seen so far, but the year is not over and it takes time to turn things around. We've done it before and will do it again.
I see no reason to believe this.
