You are correct to expect to win. VPI is the team to beat in the conference.
 
Actually, VPI has been around longer than we have. Although "Tech" always meant Ga Tech in national football conversation until Beamer got there (aside from a few counties in Texas, I guess.) And it probably still does.

No, they weren't VPI until 1896. The school itself is a bit older than the finest institution I know of, but they were originally Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. The only reason that the school is known as Virginia Tech is because the school itself requested the media to use it.

+1. This is true here in TX. "Tech" is relative to the given region. If I talk about "Tech" to someone here, they will automatically assume I'm talking about the Red Raiders and not the Yellow Jackets.

Yes but Texas TECH University actually has a valid argument.

Virginia POLYtechNIC does not have a good argument, other than they wanted to be called 'tech' to sound cool.

I think the general consensus among us is that we should win, but we know that anything can happen on any given Saturday in college football. That's why we play the games. We recognize that your offense is a much different (improved) beast than it was last year.

gotech I agree about Clemson part, but VT's engineering leaves a lot to be desired when the Gators are ranked above you in engineering. That's pretty sad.
 
gotech79, you seem cool and sensible. My boss is a VT alum. I work for an engineering company in Sterling and I live in Reston. Good luck on Saturday... and by good luck I hope you guys have a great game but still lose ;) I'll be in Atlanta for the game.

Ah, good stuff. I used to live in Sterling and work in Reston. I had to get the hell out of there tho, so I live in enemy territory now (Charlottesville).

I'm a bit bummed ... I went to the '04 & '07 games in Atlanta, but I'm going to have to watch this one on the tube.
 
VPI dude, you will have to excuse our guys for their "Tech" chauvinism.

We tend to think we should own the "Tech" name for several reasons. First, because all the other Tech or Polytech schools in big time sports long ago expanded into broad universities but kept their Tech names, whereas GIT has remained a technically focused school; second, because we have used the moniker "Tech" throughout our history, even to the extent that our jerseys and sweaters had "T" on them rather than "GT" and our tower simply says "TECH". Also we have the longest and most famous football history of any of the "Tech" schools. We always called ourselves "Tech". Our rivals called us "Tech". Auburn has a "Wreck Tech" parade when we play them.
