I wish we still had Tenuta

ncjacket, I will buy you a case of your favorite beer if the points allowed per game don't go up this season.
Up from what? Last year? I don't know if they will or they won't and PPG from year to year is pretty irrelevant if we win since the schedule is different year to year. But I'll take that bet with you.

yes PPG from last year. we can do common opponents if you want instead.

I think you should add some sort of extra factor there. Example:
GT held Miss St to a TD last year. Is that going to be likely playing them away when they've hired Florida's OC as their new head coach?

NC, I think he just wants to meet you in person and is baiting you with beer, be vewy vewy careful.

I think you should do point-per-possession because PPG is so related to how the offense does.

Thanks for being the 15th person to bring that up. One game doesn't change my opinion.
The funny thing about that statement is that it applies very well to Womack as well, as the only "bad" performance I've seen from his defense is the UGA game.

Tenuta is pretty good coach. But I can understand his game plan. The four guys up front are going to rush and tie up line men, and then anywhere from 3 to 7 other defenders are going to try and remove the quarterbacks head. It's a great style to watch, but it is feast or famine. I've read Womack's strategy and it makes less sense than Paul Johnson's offense. We'll probably give up more points this season, simply because we lost three linemen to the NFL. The one stat that matters to me is the one that Womack is already winning in, and that's W-L and number of victories over the mutts.

Plus, and this cannot be disputed, Jon Tenuta's team lost to Duke.

Everyone its almost pointless to converse and offer rebuttles to Kyle

He has absolutely "0" grasp of the game of football or how its played.

At the end of the day the only Stat that matters is a W or L. Its that simple

I mean seriously, this is the brainiac who actually put time into a project that devised a computer program to determine who the worst coach is

Arguing with this clown pointless. You'd have more success teaching a chimp how to color inside the lines

I just find it comical how absolutely out of touch with sport he is.

But to his credit, he never ceases to amaze me.

You really think that would stop Kyle from being an asshole? He's already stated several times that he just doesn't care and likes to get a reaction out of people.

I even kind of agree with his view on Tenuta but given his past and his style and purpose of delivery, that doesn't really matter.

It makes you look a lot more intelligent if you can do it without all the fluff.

By the way, this is a binary stat. You do it or you don't.

I actually agree with you!

I'm not anywhere close to being smart about defensive football, but I do recall thinking last night that I'd like to see some more blitzes. The few we ran seemed to be very effective.

I think Wommack said the same thing in the AJC (e.g. more blitzes).

Tenuta held UGA to 14 points the year UGA won the SEC, but somehow he wouldn't be able to allow less than 42 points last year? Take off your gold colored glasses and realize that Tenuta was simply a better DC than Wommack.

There is a reason we blitzed so much and used that scheme: we simply don't have the athletes that big schools do so we can't run the same scheme they do.

UGA scored 42 on us because Jahi Word Daniels was out after the Clemson game, and Tarrant was out for the year. We had a big hole at Corner, and UGA abused that.

They also had a couple of pretty good talents at WR and QB, not to mention their RB. Talent-wise, that team was one of their best in recent memory.

give it up guys!

the same way that Tenuta goes "blitz, blitz, and blitz"
Kyle is gonna say "tenuta, tenuta, and tenuta"
he probably even made a computer model to show that tenuta creates more "pressure on the qb" than wommack.. or whatever his model "showed"

Tenuta's defense sure looked great yesterday at the Big House, didn't it?

Dude...2 for 2 with ya today

I agree without question.

It's sad to see what we missed out on with Tarrant out last year.

He's gonna be a stud and he's already well on his way

Oh and another thing about Tenuta

Word Daniels really took a lot of heat under Tenuta when he was here.

Mainly due to the fact that Tenuta's "let's blitz the **** out of'em" scheme let those guys on an Island

Word Daniels did a great job last year IMO in Man Coverage up until he pulled up with the hammy at Clemson.

it's amazing the difference you saw in him when he wasn't left out to be hung while Tenuta was calling the shots.

I'm not a Tenuta hater by any means, but I do think that his style hurt us in a lot of ways. But to his credit, we didn't have a lot of Strong Def Fronts as a unit while he was there so he did have to blitz a lot in order to level the advantages and penetrate the LOS

Okay, here's my one attempt to put an end to this complete idiocy:

Wommack's statistical record as a DC is factually superior to Tenuta's in every measurable way.

1. Their yardage and total points numbers are almost exactly the same -- within about 10 yards and half a point per game.

2. Wommack's defenses have generated a LOT more turnovers. Tenuta's all time season high is 28. Wommack has beaten that in four of his six seasons as a DC. He averages about a half dozen more turnovers per season than Tenuta.

3. Wommack has had a lot less returning experience than Tenuta. He has averaged about one less returning starter than Tenuta did. Tenuta's returned 9 starters twice while Wommack never returned more than 8; and Wommack returned 3 in 2004 and 4 in 2008 while Tenuta never had fewer than 5 coming back.

4. There's no reasonable argument that Wommack had more talent relative to his opposition.

5. Tenuta had 7 seasons in one job while Wommack has never had the chance to really establish his defense. His longest tenure was at Arkansas -- which returned 4 total starters in his third season, resulting in Nutt being forced to fire him despite his having done a solid job under the circumstances.
