Introducing Woody...

OK, im going to jump in here and correct you clowns.

The scout team doesnt operate during camp. That means most all the practices before the season and during spring as well. So for the bulk of the year, the D practices against Paul's offense. IIWII.

Thanks. So the next time someone skewers a poster for bringing up the negative recruiting aspect of the defense having to practice against the 3O you can defend the skewee.

Why would someone bring up any negative recruiting aspects on a GT board?

You think Clemson boards discuss the cons of committing to Clemson?

We are probably the only idiots who do that shit. WTF.

(They deserve to be skewered. I will not defend them.)

There are 15 practices in spring. Camp is about 2-3 weeks and there are no two a days anymore, and a lot of that time is in individual and group. So that number of practices against the triple is in the minority at the end of the season, with four practices a week during game weeks.

Camp is about 2 weeks? How many practices?

Also our young guys on D will be playing on the scout team D. So they will be practicing against our O their redshirt and maybe second year if they don't make the two deep. He's saying that is a benefit because they will learn how to play tough against the run, keep to their role rather than freelance, etc.

So bubble screens and passes to tight ends are 300 series courses?

I have to congratulate all of you for the courage to open a thread named "introducing Woody".

I was expecting this:

Lets get a pool going on how long Woody lasts before he is sacrificed by the Big Johnson!

I'm in for 4 years.

I think you guys have been missing the point regarding his comments about practicing against CPJ's offense. What he said was that practicing against it is valuable from the standpoint that we run the ball well. I think Roof's defenses have been decent against the run.

What it doesn't help with is practicing against teams that run play action and out of the shotgun. And obviously we have been weaker on defense when it comes to defending the short pass or in getting pressure on the QB.

In a lot of ways it doesnt. He is explaining the upside angle of it. The upside being as he points out that run D is way more critical than pass D. So you should have no excuse not to have a good run D. If you get torched by a great passing attack? Well, that iwii.

Wait a minute, we just fired a guy because he got torched by crappy passing attacks. Forget "iiwii" - stop that shit!! Here's hoping CNW brings a new attitude to the defense. "IIWII" sux.

Quite the blossoming bromance between CNW and CPJ.

They are like two peas in a pod.

Roof played zone D against passing teams when you know we spent much(all) of camp playing man to stop the triple. We looked like a team not properly trained in zone D.

The new guy has a philosophy that logically aligns with a camp full of playing man D. He said he doesnt want people standing around in space. He means linebackers dancing around doing nothing like Roof's zone. He is going to bring his outside linebackers in blitzes.

This wont be a 180 from the camp D like a prevent zone is. Its a pass D that aligns with our camp work.

One good question is will Paul need them to play a bunch of 4-3 or will the D practicing in a 3-4 all camp be less than ideal for our triple option preparation.

Frankly, most of us are disappointed.

I am hoping and praying we quickly get some success on D and develop an identity. We need niches at this school. I think if CPJ had a true understanding of the recruiting difficulty here he would’ve been more interested in keeping Tenuta’s philosophy when he first arrived. There’s nothing sexy/attractive about playing D at Tech right now. This guy has a shot to change that perception.
