Introducing Woody...

I actually really liked that press conference. CNW seems like a high energy guy, but also gets what he has to deal with here at GT. I also enjoyed CPJ interjecting about the 5* recruiting thing. Granted, I still think CPJ is the right coach for GT.

Roof played zone D against passing teams when you know we spent much(all) of camp playing man to stop the triple. We looked like a team not properly trained in zone D.

The new guy has a philosophy that logically aligns with a camp full of playing man D. He said he doesnt want people standing around in space. He means linebackers dancing around doing nothing like Roof's zone. He is going to bring his outside linebackers in blitzes.

This wont be a 180 from the camp D like a prevent zone is. Its a pass D that aligns with our camp work.

One good question is will Paul need them to play a bunch of 4-3 or will the D practicing in a 3-4 all camp be less than ideal for our triple option preparation.

an excellent question. Gotta let the D play in the 3-4 all camp. Doing otherwise would be like asking the offense to run the spread option out of the shotgun to prepare our defense in practice.

I'm pretty sure they were also together at the basketball game last night.
They were, though honestly CPJ often looks like he's there out of obligation rather than interest. He's pretty low energy at the basketball games. IIWII.

I like going for the track record hire over the name hire.

Wommack was not even close to the 1st choice. Al Groh had been cast aside as a failure in CFB at UVA. Ted Roof had a suspect performance history even before coming to Tech. This guy will actually be missed by the school he is leaving and has a track record of consistent recent success.

That’s why I’m so excited about Woody.

I agree about hiring somebody who is missed where he's leaving, and I think "suspect performance history" is a pretty fair description of Roof's legacy. Those of us who remembered his time as our DC the first time around had mixed-at-best memories.

That said, Roof had done a good job at Penn St. in 2012. (16th nationally in points allowed, in extremely tumultuous conditions.) But I think he knew that O'Brien wasn't going to be sticking around, and decided to leap back home when the opportunity presented itself.

Glenn Spencer is now available. I wonder if he'd be a fit on Woody's staff in a return to the Flats.
