Is It Just Me But When I Look At The Talent Level...

I don't think anybody is really arguing that, right? He's an exceptional Xs and Os coach and an average recruiter. What we need is solid assistants who can complement him with solid recruiting and a defense to pair with his offense.

Clemson is not GT at all, but they did create a good blueprint. They hired Chad Morris and Brent Venables, two of the best coordinators in the country and the perfect complement to Dabo's strength which is recruiting and player management.

AND they built their players a club-med level resort to live in AND they pay them under the table AND they have no academic restrictions whatsoever.

So let's get on that too, amirite?

Sure.

Here's the plan. First, give the GTAA $55 million dollars for one of these:

Next, become Governor of the state of Georgia, replace the Board of Regents, and allow GT to have all the major offerings that Stanford and ND have where they can hide athletes.

After steps 1 and 2 are complete, we should have almost everything in place to compete yearly with Stanford and ND, and perhaps even Clemson. And then you can get your pro style coach or whoever you like to come in and pile up these 5 star recruits. But you'll also probably need to shell out a few million a year on pay for play, like these guys do:

You are absolutely correct that the game has passed GT by. So start refreshing yourself on what the current game actually is. We have intentionally chosen not to play this game, and we are doing pretty good at playing the game we have chosen to play.
Maybe dude has the cool 6 billion sitting in a mattress we’d need to take the school private.

I don't remember O'leary or Ross playing Alcorn State and Bowling Green in the same season.. I could be wrong, though
You wouldn't as the first time GT has ever played Alcron St was in 2015.... 2018 is Bowling Green's first matchup with Georgia Tech...

During GOL years Tech played an 11 games schedule (8ACC games ) that included 3 OOC games... Georgia plus two... So you often saw GT play FCS foes like (Furman / The Citadel) or a G5 team like Navy, UCF or New Mexico State in 1998. Some BIG East teams like Boston College or Miami were scheduled also... so in a good year you could see BC, New Mexico State & Ugag or UCF, Navy & Ugag along with our eight game ACC schedule.

As far as Bobby Ross goes... in 1987 & 1988 his teams faced two FCS opponents in each of those years... 1987 they faced the Citadel and Indiana St and in 1988 they faced Chattanooga & VMI.... So I am not even sure you know what your talking about

I went to Clemson, so I fully understand the institutional advantages there that GT does not have. I will disagree on the "no academic restrictions" thing though because there are indeed players that Clemson turns away due to SAT/GPA/character that usually end up in the SEC. Hell, early in the Dabo years there were two 4 star guys in the same recruiting cycle who were committed to Clemson but got turned away for academic reasons that both ended up at UNC. Those restrictions/standards are not remotely comparable to those at GT, but they do exist.

Regardless, that isn't my point. My point is that Dabo had serious limitations as a coach when he was hired, so Clemson hired assistants to complement his strengths and weaknesses. It ööööing worked, and here we are.

Impossible. We never played cupcakes before CPJ and we always had five star recruits and our QB's always threw for a million yards a year before darn CPJ got here.

Bet you don't remember either one beating FSU either

Fact check: True.

Bobby Ross never played FSU as they joined the ACC in 1992 and O'Leary was 0-8 against them and outscored 299-103 over that span, including pastings of 41-10, 42-10, 49-3, 38-0 and 34-7 in our Co-championship season.

That would be awesome.

But as an aside, have you run the actual numbers on that to confirm your 6 billion figure? Also, what we'd stand to gain financially as a private university? I'm curious what that looks like, because it's a much more likely scenario.

Well you confirmed my point.. we play an extra game now so I'd hope we'd average more wins.. a better metric would be win pct

God no. I pulled that number out of my ass.

With CPJ the highs are higher and the lows are lower. Survive the lows and you get to see the highs. I’d take that over 6-7 wins every single season.
This is what it comes down to. Losing seasons Suck (and I think our losing seasons had a öööö load of bad luck to them), but id rather have a couple losing seasons with an ACC title and shot at the playoffs than consistent 7 or even 8 win seasons.

Same here. I've got two Orange Bowl pins on my GT hat. Chan wasn't the reason why.

Our offense since CPJ has come into the league ranks among the top teams of the conference regardless of “talent levels.” And our defense is more stockpiled now than it’s been since ‘08 with the type of DC we’ve all been wanting since ‘08. We’re a top 5 team in the ACC and have as good a chance as any Coastal team of ending up in Charlotte. Quit your bitching and get on board.

Seriously. Anybody who watched the FSU game on Monday night could see with their own two eyes that having Top 5 recruiting classes don't mean much if you can't coach 'em up.

I'd rather have a coach who can't recruit well but wrings unexpected results out of them, than a coach who wins in February and leaves us disappointed every November.

Damn right. We'll see how things shake out, but right now Clemson is the only team on the schedule that really scares me. The Coastal is there for the taking, and so is UGA.
