Is Wake a must win?

Yeah, it’s a must win. My interest is hanging on by a thread and if we can’t even beat Wake, I’m probably going to check out (beyond going to games, since I already have tickets). If we don’t start notching some wins, our already poor fan support is going to crater.

Yes, we might lose to Wake and then win out, but that’s unlikely. Given how the rest of the season is projecting right now, we really need to beat Wake.

They’re supposed to be our permanent rival now. Need to get back to owning them.

They ran for almost 300yds against Vandy. Yeah, it’s Vandy, but they’ll look to do the same with us and limit our possessions. Time for D to show they can stuff the run.
 
The team needs the win!! It's a conference win! We've already lost to Louville! Tech can't get any further behind in the conference race!
 
Defense is giving up over 7 yards per play and just over 240 yards a game rushing. Unless that improves...

Obligitory "Ackshuallllllllly" but we had a losing record against Duke until the mid 1960s - I'm not talking about 1-2 - we played them often - maybe 30+ times by 1960. Hard to grasp, I realize but Duke used to be a badass. Not so for Wake, tho.
 
Lose to Wake and fan engagement will go down the toilet. Well, maybe not for the excuse makers but for most reasonable fans.

It will feel like the Geoff years. I'll save money on subscription services, won't go out of my way to watch the game. I'll catch the games on the radio while I'm out and about if I can make it through the six radio stations carrying the Dawgs after I put foil on my antenna to try to tune into that one static radio station that has the Tech game.

So not technically a must win, but emotionally a must win.
 
This entire season is an inflection point. We make progress and our small fanbase will hold heads high and feel really good about the Cabrera/Batt/Key team. We continue losing winnable games we’ll go from a 30,000 fanbase to a 20,000 fanbase. Start the season 1-3 and hope for this season is gone and hope is all we have right now. This is a huge game for GT football.

Tech-Duke through 1965

Duke up to about 1945 was apparently a pretty tough program. Then again, so were a lot of programs "back in the day."

We lost to Duke in maybe our best season in 30 years. 1 game doesn’t decide a season.
