It's fine

Yeah, all the triple option players. I guess that means CPJ sucked at recruiting.
I’m very confused. Is this an old thread or something? No. It’s not. Check the ATL chart against recruiting class years and get back to me.

and I don’t think I’ve ever said CPJ was some whiz at recruiting.

We're not where I think we should be right now, and I disapprove of Collins's performance up to this point. But some of the doom and gloom on this board is crazy. We have shown plenty of potential, and have at times looked like we could be a truly great team. Sims has the talent to be in the Heisman conversation if he improves the mental side of his game and the team comes together.

Am I super confident that Collins is the right guy to take us from potential to results? No, I'm not. But there's no way we should even be thinking about firing him after only three years, and the program is far from dead.

Next year will be pivotal -- if the team is still an inconsistent mess, then we should start thinking about an exit plan. But you don't get to success as a program or attract good HC talent by firing a coach three years after you hire him into a situation where he needs to completely remake the offense.

I know we are not firing Collins anytime soon. But changes have to be made. We had moments, the defense set up Charlie to succeed early in the year. But now you don't hear about him any more. Is offenses saying "whoa, let's avoid him", or is it offenses saying "hmmm, we can do this to succeed"? Whatever it is, our defense is making everybody look like superstars.

I don’t trust Collins to cash the checks he was saying he would when he started but I also recognize he is here a minimum of 1 more season and probably 2-3. I hope he pulls it out, we will see. Not worth getting upset about right now since he isn’t going anywhere.

and next year there will still be more freshman and soph's - most of our decent players stand a good chance of hitting the portal

We are ok. There is a million threads going on and I just want to bring everyone down to earth. We are not the best as of the moment, but When you look and see 85% of our team is freshman and sophmores I feel like we need to stop and take a second to look and just calm down.
High school players are younger than our players and the ones that are coached well know how to line up on defense against an offense and understand where to be in the zone coverage scheme they are playing. We don’t at least 1/3 of the time. That’s not youth and an experience. That is lack of a coach’s understanding and ability to teach.

Sims
Ezzard
Clayton
Allen
Harris
Watson
Kirby
Pendley
Scott

That’s a lot of misses of players with years of college football weight training and coaching and tape of them against similar talent.

Spare me that our head coach is some sort of wizzard at spotting talent.
Sims is not a miss.

The sooner you accept that the UNC game was a mirage because they have an offensive line almost as atrocious as ours the better.

Go back and watch him in subsequent games. It’s not scheme it is a complete inability to get off a block.

Take a look across the board at Power 5 CFB. ALA at 73% and most programs in the 65-83% frosh/soph, so this argument has ABSOLUTELY ZERO basis. It's simply another cover for ineptitude!

But they aren’t. The oldest players recruited by the current staff are in their second year.
It’s not 1998 anymore where you’re doomed if your OL aren’t all R-Jrs. The coaching, camps, weight training, etc these kids receive these days starting in middle school makes the light years ahead. People need to look around at how the game has changed. Most everyone plays and uses underclassman on one or both the OL or DL.

We have 3 senior starters on the Oline. Alabama has 1.

Total roster size is always skewed lower, sure. Because the upperclassmen that don't see much of the field tend to drift off or transfer out. Alabama has over 40 Junior/Senior players on their roster.

The key is the age and experience of the players actually on the field.
