It's not that our players aren't good enough, they're just extremely dumb

The only thing that could have given Maryland the game was a hold on 3rd down. All we had to do was not cheat. We didn't even need the yards.

With players this DUMB, I'm surprised Gaily didn't call the "take a knee" play on 3rd down. How do you trust your players to execute an aggressive offense when they're that DUMB? What could possess a guy to hold while we're running the clock out on 3rd down inside field goal range? What's going through that idiot's mind? "Gee, if I hold here we might get a first down on 3rd and 9, I should risk it!" What an idiot.

They let people into Tech that dumb?

What happened to us being a disciplined team not committing many penalties? Every game now, stupid crap penalties...illegal formations, too many men in huddle, etc. How many holding calls were against us today? sheesh...guess that's what we get for complaining about it not being called in the BC game...

You guys can bitch about Gailey not being conservative enough all you want, but if we'da taken a knee on 3rd down we'd have won. We can't run the ball up the middle without ****ing it up. Our players are completely inept.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

so you have no problem vilifying the players, yet the same crap year over year and you defend Gailey. Newsflash...the players leave after 4 years...explain the other crap year over year?

again...i feel bad for you...starting to wonder who the dumb one really is?

This says it all. Nothing to add except what we all already know...it all begins in practice.

Whether or not it's the coaches responsibility to make the players un-dumb is a seperate issue, one with which I can totally see maybe laying some blame on the coaches. But make no mistake, DUMB PLAYERS cost us this game, just like vs UVA.

The 3rd and 20 playcall was questionable, although if he got 5 yards it would have greatly improved the odds on the field goal. But the 2nd and 10 hold was what killed us.

Carefully beej, you're rapidly approaching "I Drive a Dodge stratus!" levels of rationalizing here.

Hopefully one day you can admit that you were wrong about Chan, have a good cry, and just let it all out. We'll be here for you when it's time.

Do you deny the game was in the bag if we don't hold on 2nd and 10?

Yes I do, it was still a 42 yard FG with a kicker that has never kicked a game winner in his 4 year career.

That is not in the bag in my mind by any stretch.

PS - We held on 3rd and 10.

IIRC TC had moved the ball to the 25-yard line on the third and hold play.

Our FG kicker was what, 13 of 14 this year? A kick slightly over 42 yards is cake, if we get 3 yards on the play it's a 39 yarder, that's cake, all we have to do is not hold. Just. Don't. Cheat. That's all we had to do. And we booched it.

Fact is, he missed the 52 yarder by inches.

When you QB just threw for over 300 yards and is on fire you don't run the ball like you're winning and trying to run the clock down. The play calling really took it away from the players at the end.

If he gets 5 yards on 3rd and 20 we win. If we don't hold on 3rd and 10 we win.

This game was UVA all over again, players doing dumb stuff to lose it at the end.

Not only are you running the ball --but with the direct snap you're telling the defense that you are running. CG played for the FG --Bell has been phenomenal this season --but he did miss on an earlier attempt from 47 yards. I didn't like shutting the offense down once we reached the 25 yard line.

However, it probably would have been fine without the holding call --but running on 3rd and 20 after the hold was just the wrong call IMO.

The direct snap stuff worked most of the game. We got a lot of 8, 9, 12 yard gains out of the direct snap stuff. I don't mind that call. We just have to understand not to hold when a hold will lose us the game.

I agree. Still, I can't get the picture of how close Bell was on the missed FG out of my mind. Quien sabe.

I hate this question usually, but I have to ask it here. Have you ever actually played o-line in a game environment?

Sometimes you have no idea that you're holding.
