J Batt Rumors Thread

Based on the B-Ball hire results so far, I'm fine with him leaving. Maybe he can find the coffee maker before his first press conference there.
That is a blip, and is premature at the moment to call that a total failure (though I think it will end up being a failure). He has done far more positive for athletic department and fundraising and managing the NIL landscape. If Batt is still willing to stay, Cabrera needs to pay him.

JBatt hasn't done any fundraising. He's passed the hat around. The Tech faithful are the ones that raised the funds.

I don't have a problem with JBatt. But he has done administrative level work not miracles and his only real hire at the moment appears to be worse than his predecessor which is saying something.

Lateral move at best. He will get a raise and stay. Book it.

I hope so. Only way it's not a lateral move is if he wants to get into the SEC.

I was expecting a bigger step up. This would be a lateral move at best.
USC(e) has more money. A LOT more money. A better conference. A better football program. And a MUCH bigger football stadium. A better basketball program. A basketball stadium that is more than twice our's size. A better baseball program. A much, MUCH, better women's basketball program. Etc.

So . . . not lateral, homers. Literally NO ONE but Georgia Tech fans think that Georgia Tech AD is as good as or better job than South Carolina AD.

And anyway . . . why in the hell should Cabrera give a raise to a guy whom he probably should fire?

A better football program.

A better football program?

Why don't you pack your bags and post over there?

Stoudamire has outrecruited his predecessor by a mile already. Jury is out on whether he can win 40 percent of his ACC games and make 1 ncaat in 6 years.

Have you ever spent any time in Columbia?
USC-E is a step down from the GT job.

I live in Realville.

I would LIKE for us to have a better football program. And maybe we are on the way to that. We certainly did in the 1990s. But this year . . . the past five years . . .

Grow up.
This year we are 7-4 and they are 8-3. Last year we were 7-6 and they were 8-5.

Before that...well, yeah, the clown era sucked. But in 2019 they were 4-8, and in 2020 they were 2-8, so they haven't exactly been setting the world on fire the past five years either.

I'd say our football programs are pretty comparable in terms of on field success, though no doubt they have more fans and money than us.

That is literally what fundraising is.

fund·rais·ing
noun
the seeking of financial support for a charity, cause, or other enterprise.
"a new development director in charge of fundraising"
I don't think it requires a magician to raise money for a cause the big money Tech people are already on board to support. I think Brent Key, the new NIL landscape and the horrendous state of the program after Hurricane "Clown Show" blew through has more to do with the infusion of money than anything magical J. Batt did.

How hard is it? Reach out to the previous donors, alumni, very successful corporate business connections, make a lot of phone calls and personal visits, lay out the future needs and goals of the program for them to understand and get on your knees with a rat cap in your hand. It isn't rocket science even though you may be asking a rocket scientist for money.

But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe J Batt can sing and dance like Jerry Lewis doing a telethon and he's the only reason all the Tech people opened up their wallets.

His B-Ball hire is looking like a huge mistake. Good thing the money is coming in. He's probably getting out of town before that mess gets worse.
