J Batt Rumors Thread

SC has never been relevant in football. It has been a long time since they were relevant in basketball.
It’s what you do to get a raise. If he and Brent Key and the coaches did not interview for other jobs. I would not be very impressed with their intellect or drive.

USCe has one conference title from like 60 years ago. They didn't win a bowl game till 1994. Our football history is not comparable. The Clown really did a number on some of our fans.

Meh, history was then, this is now. I wish moving from GT was South Carolina was a lateral move; but the reality is moving from the ACC to the SEC is not lateral. He'll be working with a bigger budget on a bigger stage in the SEC.

Where he will be an also-ran at an also-ran school dominated by other teams in the conference.
Meanwhile at Tech, he could be a Champion

Hmm champion in what? He could be a champion in baseball or wbb his first year at USCe. GT and USCe about equal distance away from being a champion in cfb or mbb.

That's precisely why I view it as a lateral move. SC obviously has the bigger stage with more money, but GT has more room to grow and build a "look what I did resume".

Presumably his goal is to move to a top job and it's not at all clear to me that SC is a better stepping stone than GT.

Most of the posters on here don't even want to be in the ACC. College Football is heading towards two conferences, the SEC and the B1G followed at a distance by a bunch of at large conferences.

None of that changes the fact that History doesn't matter. Army has 5 national championships and 3 Heisman trophy winners, it is still a huge step down to go from GT to Army.

Wouldn't turning USCe into the SEC champion be a resume builder??

Not as much as turning GT into an ACC Champion. Either way, it gets you in the playoff - why choose the more difficult route?

Ha-ha, even Wake Forest has been the ACC Champion in recent memory, SMU might be the champion this year. It ain't that hard and it doesn't mean much. Also, it will be much easier to get into the College Football Playoffs as an SEC school.

It would be a hell of a resume builder. I just think that it's a lot less likely to happen than turning GT into the ACC champion.

Weigh the odds of that against the odds SC stays mediocre at best in football and he gets fired after 5 or 6 years of futility.

Isn't that a contradictory statement?

It ain't that hard to win the ACC and this get into the CFP, but it's much easier to get into the CFP as an SEC school?

SCar has nothing special to offer. They are the same as othe SEC schools, just not as good at football. With Texas, Georgia, Florida, OleMiss, LSU, Bama, etc in the league, SCar will never be the top team. Never. Why would a top recruit pick SCar over the other similar schools?

Meanwhile, Georgia Tech offers a unique, high-powered education in an urban setting in a large modern city, which differentiates the school from other programs. We get top recruits bc we are in Atlanta, where they are from, and bc we offer a top-notch education.

If you cant see the difference, then it seems you might be a fan of the Cocks

If you think the ACC will just disappear next year or in 2 years then you are mistaken, imo

Reality is JBatt came from the sec (Alabama). I’m sure his goal was to eventually go back. Is South Carolina an upgrade vs GT? That’s debatable.

But if you dig into the big 2 sports over the last 5 years, South Carolina has been better in both football and hoops. Which for hoops isn’t saying much. GT has in all reality been a disaster for 20 years. Since 2004, GT has 7 winning seasons and 3 NCAAT appearances, with 2 1 and done’s. The GT hoops program no longer resonates across the country like it did under BC and the first half of Hewitt’s tenure.

Then add in the South Carolina WBB program.

South Carolina has their advantages from a $$$ perspective coming from the sec media deal. No issue getting fan support either. For as bad as South Carolina’s football history has been, the fan support has always been there.

If Batt leaves……OK. It’s just an AD. GT can go and find another one who prioritizes football first and foremost. As long as they don’t hire M-Bob 2.0, nothing will really change the upward trend of the football program.

Because the sec will always get a minimum of 3 teams in the CFP with a 12 team field. The ACC getting 2 is likely the ceiling.

If Syracuse upsets Miami, and Clemson loses to South Carolina tomorrow, the ACC will get 1 team in the CFP.

Do you think this will get any better when the field expands to 16 in 2 years? No. It just means the sec/B1G will get a minimum of 5 teams each. And each time the CFP field expands, the sec is guaranteed more bids. The ACC, B12 are only guaranteed 1 bid, whether the field continues to grow to 16, 20, 24. Whether right or wrong, that’s the difference.
