I love the 3O. I watch it anytime I have a chance to see any team run it. I don't ever want to see another 3O coach at Tech. That ship has sailed never to return. Plenty of other proven schemes out there. Any return to the 3O at Tech would be immediately burdened by a weight of negativity that would surely sink it early and permanently. And the NCAA did make several rule changes to hamstring the 3O scheme as CPJ and his disciples ran it. I think that era of football is history now.

Same here. Have you come across any teams that run the TO besides military schools? I know Ferris State did last year. Davidson does as well, out of shotgun - very similar to how GS ran it last 3 years. I also love unique offenses, like Drew Cronic at Mercer, Brannen Marion (At Texas now but I don't think that's his offense since he is WR coach).

Citadel didn't win because of the option. Otherwise, they would be scheduling SEC teams and beating them. Citadel won because we sucked.

Citadel won because Collins defense works like crap against the flexbone and because our offensive playcalling was retarded.

Yall also seem to forget that we lost to the Citadel after we had won... CGC called time out a second before Oliver scored what would have been the winning TD.

Have you seen how our defense works against non flexbone teams?

It just a comment on how he attacks a flexbone offense, outside in. It gets destroyed up the middle. We were fortunate KSU was dumb enough to pass against us.

Two things can be true at the same time and they are here:
1. Johnson was a fantastic coach, one of the best play callers of all time, whose best days were behind him when he left. His best days were behind him due to him not having the fire in his belly to put the effort into recruiting that he should AND due to rule changes that effectively killed being able to run his offense at a high level. Blame Johnson for the first and pussies like Frank Beamer for the second.
2. Collins is a horrible clown of a coach who has no idea what he’s doing and should have been fired yesterday as well as every day prior. The fact that he was able to sell Todd on his bullshit indicates that Todd has to go too as he’s also incompetent. Both should get a magic carpet ride off the flats on the ööööing turf they installed.
Yeah. The roster was in a ööööty state when PJ left, and Collins sucks. I made this point the other day without the PJ fellatio. Maybe all it took was a little God of Option deference to get the morons to upvote

It’s not that I don’t want to see the offense. In fact I’ll love it. I just think perception will be bad and we will never get into the Big 10. We also have the Insta transfer portal so I’m not sure we won’t lose half the good talent. Kind of the opposite of with Paul in the first few years.

Why is the cutblock essential for the 3/o to succeed?

I know bupkis about D-1 football coaching or playing college football. Got interested in PJ's scheme.

In PJ's scheme the smaller faster A backs replace tight ends. These fast movers, down field blocking at the legs, allow the A's to take larger linebackers and other D second level peeps out of the play, as they drop their hands to fend off the cut as the play moves to them...even if not blocked the defender is taken out of the play stepping to defend/avoid the block. With the disallow of the cut, the A back block attempt is easier for the defender to shed while keeping an angle to defend the play.

Using A backs and receivers to down field block also affords different guard and tackle play on the line and downfield. Sort of a force multiplier. Defenders don't see what, or where whats coming at them. And all this is happening, before and while trying to follow where Nesbitt is going with the football.

Its quite a dance, and with a coach that sees what's happening on the field, while knowing how to run a game, while making game changing adjustments, you beat a lot of people folks didn't expect.

...beats the öööö out of "Clap Clap 5 yards back, watch me telegraph my hand off 5 yards deep or stare down my receiver...
but that is another bitch for a different thread and not your question.

It's funny, I was just thinking "man, I sure haven't heard any discussions about getting into a better conference lately." If we were in the Sun Belt, we'd still be sitting at rock bottom!
