JEFF MONKEN

Two things can be true at the same time and they are here:
1. Johnson was a fantastic coach, one of the best play callers of all time, whose best days were behind him when he left. His best days were behind him due to him not having the fire in his belly to put the effort into recruiting that he should AND due to rule changes that effectively killed being able to run his offense at a high level. Blame Johnson for the first and pussies like Frank Beamer for the second.
2. Collins is a horrible clown of a coach who has no idea what he’s doing and should have been fired yesterday as well as every day prior. The fact that he was able to sell Todd on his bullshit indicates that Todd has to go too as he’s also incompetent. Both should get a magic carpet ride off the flats on the ööööing turf they installed.

There has been a sickening nausea in my gut that appeared when Collins effed up the clock mgt at the end of the Citadel game and has never left.

I was certain that bringing in Chip Long and Chris Weinke would allow Collins to mentor Thacker more closely.

I cannot believe how bad Sims looked yesterday. Nor can I believe how Ole Miss would call running plays on third and fifteen and get a first down.

Curry had us back on track after two bad years. Ross had us back on track after two years. O'Leary had us back on track after two years.

Collins has shown that he will never get us back on track. I think our roster is better than when he took over but its pearls before swine. We should promote either Long or Weinke to HC with a fat raise, demote collins to DC and start righting the ship. We don't have to fire him and pay him off - demote his ass and let him report to Long or Weinke. If he doesn't like it then he can clean out his desk.

I’d give Todd Monken a look for sure.

walking back from HGF/BDS Saturday evening, my buddy looks at me and goes, "you know, would it be crazy to think about" and I almost said Todd Monken before he did.

Well, frankly, there really aren't any good candidates to be interim HC on the staff. And I remain wholly underwhelmed with what I've seen from Long and Weinke. They've been just as ineffective as I dreaded.
Much like Rome getting Cincinnatus out of retirement to save the empire, can we get somebody to just run the staff and the program for the next two months and then let them go back to enjoying life? Hell, if it's Urban Meyer, I couldn't care less. Bronco Mendenhall., Mullen, anydamnbody.

I think PJ got worn down too by having to fight for stuff,, such as additional staff for recruiting and improvements to the locker room. I wonder how much going up against the tight-fisted and ham-fisted MBob wore him down. Remember the stories about how MBob wanted to outfit a charter cargo plane with jump seats to fly the team to Ireland because it would be vastly cheaper.

Sims has regressed and has had plenty of chances. Time to give the backup a shot.

If we go to the Bone we lose all future of surviving in the power 5 format. That is playing and beating the best.

Wasn't this the battle cry when we hired Geoff? Yet the option based teams (whether we're talking more hybrid RPO like what Meyer & Mullen ran or the flex based system that the academies are running) have been far more successful than we've been since CPJ.

*** to be fair, meyer only had 1 year of overlap with coach clown

If the rule changes were a big deal, explain the citadel game. Even with Hellen Keller coaching our team we should've been able to win. Jimmies and Joes, right?

IIRC we did every spring
That was talked to death on this board as the reason our defense sucks. And people were saying it’s because we practice against the option. And others were saying we didn’t practice against A team defense.

It was talked to death. The talking heads who said we only practiced against the option were clearly lying (or idiots), but that doesnt' mean we never practiced against it either. Surely you don't think the scout team or the first team def didn't practice against the option if we had an option team on the schedule. IIRC, during early spring the would play some against it too just to give the offense reps against a better defense.

There's a massive difference between "Tech defense only plays against the option" and "Tech defense never plays against the option".

i don’t know what we’re arguing about here. Tech played two option teams and lost to both of them. The original comment about never practicing against it was more TIC than anything else. I don’t care enough to go down this road, you can have It.
