JEFF MONKEN

If the rule changes were a big deal, explain the citadel game. Even with Hellen Keller coaching our team we should've been able to win. Jimmies and Joes, right?
They wanted it more and were better coached. Don’t forget our horrendous penalties in that game.

i don’t know what we’re arguing about here. Tech played two option teams and lost to both of them. The original comment about never practicing against it was more TIC than anything else. I don’t care enough to go down this road, you can have It.
Wait, we ran the option?

That's the point i was getting at. If coaching can beat the rule changes (on top of jimmies & joes) how much did the rule changes really matter?

Well, they matter bigly when playing motivated opponents. There were always going to be outlier games (that’s why the game is played) but new downfield blocking rules screw big time with the offense that Johnson ran.

Wasn't this the battle cry when we hired Geoff? Yet the option based teams (whether we're talking more hybrid RPO like what Meyer & Mullen ran or the flex based system that the academies are running) have been far more successful than we've been since CPJ.

*** to be fair, meyer only had 1 year of overlap with coach clown
But that’s not the bone.

Yeah the cut block 5 yards down the field rule.

Not that I want the option back, but Army leads the nation in passing efficency. They have also thrown for more yards than our "big boy" offense (ranked 120) and they didn't even throw a pass in their last game
Ouch.
Anyway y’all be quiet about Monken. The hope is we have 5-7 years left to catch the TV conference train and the option won’t do it

I love the 3O. I watch it anytime I have a chance to see any team run it. I don't ever want to see another 3O coach at Tech. That ship has sailed never to return. Plenty of other proven schemes out there. Any return to the 3O at Tech would be immediately burdened by a weight of negativity that would surely sink it early and permanently. And the NCAA did make several rule changes to hamstring the 3O scheme as CPJ and his disciples ran it. I think that era of football is history now.

You conveniently forgot to mention that we had something like 8 or 9 multi-year NFL players on those 2008 and 2009 teams. Then from the last, what...6 or 7 seasons under Paul (ie...kids he recruited) we had a guard drafted, a punter. and a kicker? THAT would be why. Because the talent level does go down.

And Paul was the genius of the offense. The others don't have his skill at calling plays.

We've won 4 national championships at GT...one was during my time as a fan in 1990. We weren't running the "bone" then. How many NC's did we win running the flexbone?

Last 7 seasons under Johnson? So no Hill or Sneezy. We had 2 WR (one is the highest paid TE in the NFL I think), a guard, NT (Gotsis, I think he was drafted), kicker, punter.
