Jeff Sims

I kind of hope either Sims is available this weekend or is out for 2 weeks. Not sure it will do anybody any good for his next play after this game to be against Clemson.

Why is everyone saying Sims is a freshman? He played all last year as a freshman. He's a sophomore now.

We have got to give Sims a chance to get going. I remember when fans were ready to pull the plug on Joe Hamilton in his second year. The talent is there. If we want to take it to the next level, Sims is our best chance so you gotta roll with him. Let's go run heavy against KSU and get him comfortable.

Yates plays with heart but once opponents have had a chance to scout him, I don't see much upside.

At this point Sims reminds me of one of the QB's playing under gus malzahn at Auburn. A big, physical runner that can get the ball to playmakers with some consistency. If we are asking him to do the kind of things that UNC's QB does for example, then I don't think that he has a lot of upside either.

Do we really trust Collins to pick the best QB? You guys who are saying Sims is clearly better than the others. I ask, based on what? Because Collins said so last September? This is the same coach who picked Lucas Johnson to start game 1 of his GT coaching career over Graham. And that he is still starting several DB’s who have never performed for GT over younger guys tells me if Collins tells me it’s sunny that I immediately will grab my umbrella.

I'm sure there where other teams recruiting him as a QB but what teams?

Was it like Justin Thomas? Elite teams wanted him at other positions, but not at QB?

No, it wasn't like Justin Thomas. JT was evaluated as an athlete by the recruiting services and not heavily recruited as a QB. He originally committed to Bama as a DB but we offered him the chance at QB. Obviously he was a great QB for our system.

Sims was rated the #10 dual threat QB in the country by 247 and had offers from several very good P5 programs who were looking at him as a QB.

I'm losing faith in this staff's ability to develop him, but it would be revisionist history to say he was not a high caliber QB recruit.

He actually said he thought Sims played well. Sims is his star recruit. Yates is not his recruit. I'm surprised Yates hasn't transferred yet.
I think Yates gained some value points if he ever decides to enter the portal.

I disagree, as there's plenty of time to turn it into a thread about the 1980's.

For instance, Danger Zone wasn't the best song in Top Gun. That was Mighty Wings by Cheap Trick.

You’re not wrong. All This talk about air themed 80s rock got me hankering for some Van Halen Blue Angels magic…pulled up Spotify, and, I dare say, there are in fact angels among us:

Besides Sims, does anyone know why Devin Cochran or Clayton never saw the field ?
Cochran shows up on the participation report. It only shows six OL played.

Another poster says: We started 2 new transfers OL, Cochran (LT) and Pendley (RT). Cochran graded out the highest of all our OL. Pendley split time with Jordan Williams, but I did notice him sealing the edge well on runs early in the game. Not sure if Kirby played (other grad transfer)

According to our OC, Sims was lighting it up in practices leading up to the game. There are so many concerns about this staff but I don't think picking the right starting QB is one of them. My question is this: if Sims hadn't come out of the game due to injury, and had he kept playing as poorly as he was up until the injury, when or would he have been pulled. I do have a concern that the OC would not have pulled him. Think about that for a second. Erase the 21 points Yates led us to and substitute the points Sims would have led us to. Its not a stretch to think we could have been shut out.

...or maybe Sims would have settled in and scored 28. We'll never know.
Sims does have the huge advantage of being the larger, faster QB with the better arm. As much as I would like to see Yates succeed, he doesn't possess any of those attributes.
