Jeff Sims

I am no CGC fan by any stretch but no coach would cop to that.
And could you trust any coach's decision-making after he admits to changing a call based on crowd reaction?

I'm more dumbstruck on 33,000 is now relatively packed. Or the perception he has that Sims played well, despite going 3 for 8 and missing open receivers for easy scores. The fact Collins used the first hour and a half (ok, maybe not that long. But still) of the presser to praise Cochran effusively for his Catapult rating tells me ... he's in over his head.

Remember, the coaches had been saying all summer had much time Sims had been spending outside from practice in CDP's offense, watching film, trying to get better, how much progress he had made, etc. etc. Makes me wonder if he's doing that, when's he going to class? But I digress....
Patanaude talks about this in more football terms and not platitudes and hype. Said that he thought Sims was playing tight for whatever reason. Also said that in practice Sims was hitting 100% of those passes and the word he used was “elite” to describe Sims in the last two weeks leading up to the season.

If that’s the case, it’s more understandable why Coach P started with the game plan he had and was expecting Sims to snap out of it. It didn’t happen fast enough either to keep us from losing or before Sims got hurt.

I disagree, as there's plenty of time to turn it into a thread about the 1980's.

For instance, Danger Zone wasn't the best song in Top Gun. That was Mighty Wings by Cheap Trick.
Speaking of the danger zone, if we had an entry video like this one but with a bee and Bobby Dodd Stadium, then the fans and team would have been properly amped and we'd never have lost to NIU.

The two songs are interchangeable. The best musical Monet from Top Gun was Berlin’s Take My Breath Away.

I'll take that last question for you coach. I want the fans to know that Saturday was unacceptable. It's not okay with me and it will not be okay with anyone who works for me or plays for me.

Regarding Sims, it’s just not there. Looking back at his recruitment it’s obvious that everyone else passed and he came here. He’s a heck of an athlete and will make some plays but that’s what he is. Collins is going to ride Patenaude and Sims to the unemployment line.

That is not obvious that "everyone" passed on him. You made that öööö up.

I actually think Patendude is redeeming himself, at least relative to CGC. Guys makes sense during his pressers and doesn't come off as a bratty full of himself child like CGC. Regarding Sims, he is CGC's showcase recruit. Yates was a CPJ recruit. No way CGC will ever start Yates over Sims unless he completely öööös the bed for a whole season.

LOL. Sims is starting as a freshman because he's the best athlete we have at that position. Nobody knows what his potential will be with a couple seasons of experience. It's not fair to judge him for being thrown into the spotlight when he would normally be developing off the field for most other established programs.

Am I the only one who thought Yates looked better in these 3 quarters than Sims ever has? I know he doesn't have the size and speed of Sims but he looks like a real qb. He makes good decisions and it accurate with this throws.

I think Yates did a good job coming in for Sims. But it's easy to forget that Sims won ACC rookie of the week 3 times last season and had some impressive outings without a decent OL to help him out.

Yeah, objectively Sims had 4 better games last year against at least a little better competition.

Sims was great against FSU except for the unforced TOs. I guess it was a little “beginner’s luck” but shows he does have the talent; they just need to polish it.

Sims does have incredible upside but you never know when or if the light turns on.

FWIW, I would probably start Yates on Saturday and then have Sims come in. Maybe that would help Sims settle into the game.

There's a difference between a QB and a gifted athlete playing QB. Yates does look way more confident.

Let them compete. Sims is big and athletic. He can make the intermediate passes. His big drawback is he doesn’t have good touch on the long ball.

Yates looked to pass better, but also couldn’t hit the deep pass. Yates isn’t the runner Sims is, but that means Yates doesn’t bail on the pocket as readily, which is why he had a better completion percentage, IMO.

Both guys should be fine.

Yates had a 43 yard pass on the td drive that tied the game.
