Jerrard Tarrant charged with RAPE

I'm from Carrollton, where Jerrard is from and was absolutely shocked to hear the news. I was so excited to see a Carrollton boy get on the field this year, but then something like this happens. I always heard that he was a good kid and am very surprised he would put himself in this kind of situation. I don't know what to say, other than this is a sad day for both Georgia Tech and Carrollton. This kid's entire life is probably ruined.

Good people make bad decisions sometimes, especially if alcohol was involved. Assuming it happened at 4:15 on a Friday morning, it may have been the ending of some Thursday night partying.

I always end my thursday night partying with a good rape.

Probably not the best way to express it, but I agree with this sentiment. If true, this goes way beyond "bad decision," and however drunk he may have been would make it no better at all.

However, we'll see how it plays out. Hopefully it turns out to be not true....

One thing I'm confused about is why it's taken so long for this to come about if it was reported in April? Did they just have to get enough evidence, or what?

Takes a while to gather evidence. Had a case in Macon this year of possible child molesting that occurred on New Year's Eve -- and the arresting/grand jury just came out this month. So sometimes it takes a while to gather evidence.

This is really getting a little ridiculous. I'm not one to condemn the whole sports program, but seems like a lot of bad decisions are being made or at the very least a lot more of it is making the news.

As much joy as we get from the f---tards 80 miles east, at least they're getting busted with typical college stuff that no one really cares about, a little underage drinking, a little pot, etc it gets a lot more serious with DUI, heroin and rape.

Disappointing for a lot of reason, lets hope this is the last of the bad news we'll get for a while. Hope that the woman/girl involved is alright and can move along.

It seems we always get hit with the big stuff. eg, Rueben Houston with 100 pounds of pot in his car.

Hopefully during this time he will mature and realize what a great opportunity he actually had at GT.

Rape is a 10 yr mandatory minimum in GA. If he has to spend 10yrs in a GA prison his GT missed opportunity will be the least of his worries.

Allegedly, rape is the most UNREPORTED crime and also the most FALSELY reported crime.

Here is Charlotte one prosecutor handles ALL THE RAPES in Meck county. I tried a rape against her a few months ago and it was a very difficult trial.

I can tell you that if there is little evidence of force (vaginal tearing, ripped panties, bruises on arm, neck, or inner thighs) then the prosecutor will have their work cut out for them. AND EVEN IF they have some of that if these two kids were seen out earlier together drinking and etc. a good defense lawyer will have a decent chance of winning this case at trial. Reasonable doubt is lying all over the place in a "date" rape trial.

Of course I DON'T KNOW ANY of the facts of this case and I am just speculating.

I feel bad for everyone b/c this will probably be an ugly episode. Only the player and the alleged V know what really happened.

Reub was photographed with a duffel bag full of diapers, after leaving a car a small time drug dealer was in, on his way to his babymama's house. He was never apprehended with any marijuana, nor bought/sold any to any officer of the peace, nor anything else incriminating except the DEA had that one photograph in a stack of stuff when they arrested like 20 people involved with a big dude the small time dealer was going to meet, and scooped Reub up in the (widely cast) net.

He was immediately kicked off the team and expelled from school before he ever went to trial. As anyone with any sense knows, being accused of something doesn't get you kicked out of school. Except in the rare case where you're a football player, and The Hill is about to eat **** over a clerical error that caused the NCAA to try to wipe out our football records from 98 to 01. No, in that case The Hill has to make a statement, roast a few students on a stake to appease the national audience.

So Reub gets expelled his senior year, and does what a true Georgia Tech Student Athlete that anyone would be proud of does: talks to his profs, and begs to audit the classes he's currently in, for no grade, because he's a semester away from graduation. And, he hires a lawyer.

The lawyer brings suit against Tech to get him reinstated because he's been singled out, so he can finish his degree. Which, he does, with excellent grades, thanks to studying dutifully even when The Hill wanted him off school property.

And while he's reinstated, Tech officially has no reason to keep him off the team, so they go back to his lawyer to make the point. Which he does. And he's allowed to play.

Chan, the whole time, knew the whole story and never said anything in public to the contrary. He said he'd abide by whatever decisions The Hill (his boss) made, but if he had the option he'd gladly take Reub back on the team. Which he did.

The greatest shame (personally) of the whole deal, despite the hit GT took to its reputation, was that Reub had to miss athletics most of his senior year, and wasn't in good enough form by the end of the season to where he could start. Had to play nickel back, and didn't do well in the NFL combines either, as a result of being out of practice. Otherwise we might have one more Degreed GT Alum playing in The League, and quite possibly won another game or two that year. As it is, at least Reub's got his degree, and probably a pretty good job, probably with benefits, almost assuredly not selling weed.

So that's the Reub story.

Don't tell that to the Duke lacrosse team. 24/7 media coverage means that guilt by association is a lot more like actual guilt than it used to be.

Can we show a little perspective here, please? A redshirt freshman, recruited by the previous administration, who has never played a down, is suspended by the new coach for an alleged crime, until it sorts itself out. Seriously.

Houston pled guilty to consipiracy to distribute 92 lbs of pot. Once you plead it is irrelevent what the evidence showed. Obviously he believed (through advice of counsel) there was a substantial risk of conviction at trial or he would not have pled.
