Johnson reflects on the train wreck that was Collins

What's stupid is the belief he was run out of town by the administration & fans, something you & his fans have repeated for 4 years.

We now know for certainty that that isn't true. He was asked to stay but declined.

He quit & retired.
This reminds me of how it was also revealed that the defense did in fact practice against the option, contrary to the multitude of assurances on here that it didn’t. “Wow what a coincidence our defense sucks no matter how many DC’s we hire. WeIrD, HuH”

Both. That whole article is CPJ ego masturbation. Oh it bothered me that he talked öööö about my offense. I was the best since Bobby Dodd…

I know from 1st hand account that he said before “They were nothing before me, I’d like to see them try after me.” That is my biggest problem with CPJ. He thinks Tech was nothing before him. And bunch of our fans agree with him because they’re more CPJ fans than Tech fans.
I was ready for CPJ to adapt or retire. College football was closing in on his system and teams has learned to force long drives, not giving up the big plays as they had done early in his career. How CGC handled it when he came in was not good, IMPO.

The one thing that pos Collins said that was true was it was the greatest transition in the history of college football. He successfully transitioned GT football from a program that was respected for a century (sure some bad years, but many good years) into the laughing stock of college football programs. One that was openly mocked on major network tv. He is the only “coach” that managed to do that. Some of you dorks hold grudges against previous coaches for ridiculous reasons. Some were better than others, some worse, but none just destroying a football program except Collins. They are all gone; let it go.
I’ll explain it in fairytale terms.

Prince Charming (PJ) found a princess (roster) that fit the glass slipper (3-O). The team/program (carriage) was pretty solid. The offense (horses) carried the team. Prince Charming decided to take his glass slipper away and we were left with a homely wench and a rotting pumpkin hitched to a jackass (Collins) to pull it as far as he could

DRad absolutely wanted CPJ gone and tried to "starve" him out both in support and financially. 2014 saved CPJ.

You are right in that Stan did not run CPJ out. CPJ saw the negativeness build in the fan base (example: fire CPJ from the frat window and the giant clown sign in the stands) and knew the time was right for him. I don't know many who say Stan ran him out of town. Stan did fund Collins better (or the boosters did, one or the other).

Roof was not his pick but the boosters.

Yada Yada... you know this... hate knows no truth.

I don't hate PJ. I hate 25 QB keepers per game and 42 completed passes in an entire season. I hate dismal defenses and ignored ST.

Lol at the idea that DRad wanted to run out the guy who built his reputation and landed him the Clemson job.

RW92 you are just as much of a broken record as the option lovers that you talk about. Let it go. I love the option and variations of it and I did love CPJ but I also felt like it was his time to go. I also know that an option coach isn’t the only route to go for us to be competitive.

The article was actually very respectful and you can spin it however you want but it is what it is. He cleared up outright lies, he made reference to leading the nation in rushing in reference to one of those lies (not to act like it was better than winning), and his 10 year comment was more about coach longevity than a 10 year stretch in general.

The admin didn’t quit on CPJ but a small vocal group of fans did and he saw it was his time. He gave plenty of notice and chose to retire. That isn’t quitting. It’s been 4 years…let it go.

We hired an idiot after him. I tried to give him a chance even though I hated the hire. It’s time to let it go.
