Johnson reflects on the train wreck that was Collins

Seems there is a better than even chance now that Patenaude was not the problem.

Possibly. Old Dominion has also won 3 games this year. They just moved up to FBS this year, so he might be better as time progresses. Considering OD has like 1 winning record in like a decade and his offense hasn't moved the needle for them, I'm doing to doubt it.

Didn't you defend Pnope right up until he was let go?
I'll chime in to say that I didn't necessarily defend him but I clearly did not assign our problems to him either. Long is an upgrade over Patenaude but Patenaude made the most of what the micromanaging idiot clown gave him.

I think what CPJ really needed to get off his chest was that Collins lied about his program. He was clearly upset with the repeated lament that he inherited a line that averaged 260 pounds and the oft repeated line that high school coaches in the area were happy to get attention from Collins because they never heard from the previous staff. Both of those statements were lies by Collins, if Paul Johnson is being truthful. He pointed out that Collins trashing the state of the program he inherited cost him relationships with ten years worth of Tech players.

I think this was completely it. I and a couple of others got into extended arguments about how big (or small) our OL was. There are posters who are still here that believed every word that Collins said and no amount of facts would sway them away from the conman. Collins could have made comments about the lack of DL he inherited and no one would have contested much; but he couldn't stop himself and had to fling poo everywhere. The people that seem the most upset with this CPJ article are the ones who don't want to admit to themselves that they got completely duped by a low IQ conman. This has been a rude awakening for a few that they aren't smarter than everyone else just because they passed Calc & Diffy Q's; reality is they still got duped by a sockless dolt and bought into it to the point of buying '404' & 'ATL' merchandise. Now they have a closet full of stuff that should never be seen again and only serves as a reminder that they got duped by a conman.

I think OD helped him pack his bags before the season started.

You do realize that Pat resigned almost days after taking the job - he is not ODU's OC.

You're right, that's my fault I didn't read the description on Wiki - only saw the 2022 in the box assumed he was still there. Well, that post is going to taste great isn't it..

It was an easy mistake. ODU figured him out in fall practice and then let him resign and promoted another guy to OC. The bigger surprise is the posters in this thread still defending him and what he did at GT.

I blame the Hill more than TStan. And I blame MBob more than anybody or anything.
Ran into TStan one night during CPJ's era and TStan bemoaned the state of the players' lounge, which he called a "ööööing disgrace" or WTTE. It was clear though he didn't say it that TStan was blaming MBob for the lack of support. I think TStan was trying to get some more support for PJ - to wit, the new locker room, finished just in time for the 2018 season.

You're on the right path. Architects of the misery of the last 8 years, in order of contribution: Mike Bobinsquatch, Bud Peterson, (gap), Dan Radakovich, (gap), Todd Stansbury, Geoff Collins, Josh Pastner.

We've got the right President now, which is the hardest part. We'll have both revenue sports as new hires within 4 months, so we'll know about the AD in a hurry. If the AD is Cabrera caliber GT is finally back to Homer Rice type days soon.

Not correct. Pat had a decades long relationship with ODU's head coach. When ODU fired their OC about the same time GT fired Pat, Rahne (ODU HC) couldn't get Pat up there fast enough. He was not fired. I haven't been able to verify it in an article anywhere but think he resigned for personal (family) reasons. No reason has ever been publicly disclosed to my knowledge.

Assuming the AD is free to hire his choice.

I am counting on Cabrera to ensure that our AD makes the decision.
I don't know if he can do anything if a coalition of rich donors (to the AA) say "pick our choice or we walk". I know it probably wouldn't be that extreme, but if Cabrera could replace a bunch of rich donors money he probably would of already earmarked that money for the AA by now if he means what everyone thinks he means.

Johnson said he believes he had the best 10 year run since Dodd. I'm not sure if you noticed but Ross and O'Leary weren't around for 10 years and jumped for new challenges (Ross) or greener pastures (O'Leary). So what he is saying is probably correct.

But you all can continue with your fascination of taking a big dogshit dump on Johnson, it is what you do.

I'll take the 10 year run that started with a natty in '90 and ended with 3IAR vs the dwags. It included an ACC Championship, a shared ACC Championship, a New Year's Day bowl win natty, and a Gator Bowl win over Notre Dame that was just as exciting as 2014 Orange Bowl.

The "me me me" syndrome of Johnson is a bit annoying here, esp. in light of the new info that, yes he absolutely did quit on us.

Lead the nation in rushing but lost 6games. Have to tell the full story.
The full story should include the context of the remark. The stat was brought up as a counter point to the offensive line being criticized. He didn't bring it up to proclaim the 2018 season was excellent because we led the nation in rushing. He said the narrative of Collins wasn't true and backed it up with a stat.

Pretending like CPJ was happy with leading the nation in rushing while losing 6 games is ridiculous. He hated to lose and you could tell.

The “he quit on us” narrative is very strange to me. It comes across as a childish insult and doesn’t even make sense.

The dude retired. It’s well known that you hated him, but calling him a quitter makes you look really stupid.

What's stupid is the belief he was run out of town by the administration & fans, something you & his fans have repeated for 4 years.

We now know for certainty that that isn't true. He was asked to stay but declined.

He quit & retired.

2nd to last in the ACC in budget but expected to compete against Clemson and uga isn't going to entice many people to stay on the job.
