Key Fans, I Have Questions:

And even if we had dominated, are we really so impressed by a guy beating a vastly overrated UNC team and a vastly overrated Pitt team?

Probably through the lens of what Key was working with and when he did it. Not sure if Key is the long term answer or not, but he had the team playing much better after taking over a dumpster fire.

OL criticism is fair. However, how did the same OL play much better against teams like Ugag than they looked versus W Carolina?

Curious as to the contract details (i.e. buyout) and who the OC will be.

We were competitive for a half. Not even just competitive, playing them evenly. Then they blew us out in the second half.

I'd say that is better than most teams did against U[sic]GA this season. But of course ultimately it ended the same way as it did for every team U[sic]GA has played all season.

I admit that is a fair characterization. If not for one score early, no one would say we were that competitive.

It's all moot now. I don't want to argue. Will hope for the best. It's not impossible for Key to succeed with the right staff and some luck. (Coping stage)

  • How do you explain away the fact that he failed miserably as our offensive line coach for 4 seasons? To the point where we were blaming him for losses? The undisciplined nature of the OL for 4 seasons?
  • How do you explain that this guy was tagged "Assistant Head Coach" during 4 of the most dog öööö seasons of Tech football in history?
  • How do you explain his absolute dog öööö performance as an OC at UCF? To the point that he had to take a demotion back to OL caoch? They went 0-12, mind you.
  • If he's such a great recruiter and builds such strong bonds with the kids, why did our key players already hit the portal? He couldn't even hang on to them?
I'm just asking...

All excellent questions, but he isn't being hired as an O-line coach or an Offensive Coordinator.

He's being hired as the head coach because we don't have enough $$ to afford a big name and he showed that he's a better Head Coach than Collins. By transitioning away from Collins to Key, we can avoid Collins' toxic mindset, rebuild our finances, and give Key a chance to build a great team of assistant coaches.

They would have if you also took away U[sic]GA's one TD drive.

It's true that if you take away our only touchdown but leave their only touchdown intact, we definitely seem less competitive. But if you're going to be doing that, I'd rather you give us an extra TD drive instead and then we would have outplayed them, at least for one half :).

But that's just it, he did get lucky. Go back and remind yourself of each of those games... We got pretty lucky. And I was glad to see it happen at the time, but it is not a sustainable coaching strategy.

It's better than losing to Old Dominion by 4 touchdowns, or 6+ touchdowns to James Madison; which seems to be some posters preferred choice.

Overrated or not, those teams finished 1-2 in the Coastal. Now given that divisions are going away next season, but these are the teams you need to beat to compete in the upper-tier of the conference. Tech needs to stop wetting the bed against the Virginia’s and sub-par teams in the conference - oh, and get back on par with Clemson since they are on the schedule every year moving forward, along with WF and Louisville.

How do you explain the fact that he went 4-4 by changing only one coaching position?

That’s one way to tell the world you’ve never played competitive sports.

  • Collins
  • Younger, less-experienced with dogshit roster
  • Soft players knew they weren't going to play. Jude Kelly leaving shouldn't concern anyone and Sims has already been replaced. McCollum is replacable and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

From where dipshit? He didnt say we'd have immediate unlimited resources. He said he'd give him the resources necessary to turn us back into a winning program. He didn't say he'd do it overnight.
Tech folks can be so darn binary at times. He wants to change this program, that's good. He will help us work at it over a period of years, that's good. It won't happen overnight, TFG walked out with $11M of it. That makes me want to hurl right there.

Did you watch any of those games? Lucky is an understatement. Not sure we were competitive with the mutts lol

Well, I'

I am very happy with Key. In my experience, luck is a residue of preparation. Luck is deceptive, too. If you get ten lucky breaks in a game you lose 35 to 7, you don't notice your luck, because it doesn't change the outcome of the game. So, for luck to matter, you have to prepare good enough to be in a position where getting a lucky break can result in you winning. If you work hard and prepare well, your opponents will always think they lost because you got lucky. They won't ever think that your good luck only mattered because you worked hard enough to be in the position where one lucky break could win the game for you. I just believe Coach Key will do a great job. The whole team played completely differently when he took over. I think he will grow in the job, too. He's not a flashy guy, but I think he's just what we need. I will be much more excited about Tech FB if Key is our head coach than I would be if anybody else was our head coach. Go Jackets!
