Key Fans, I Have Questions:

  • How do you explain away the fact that he failed miserably as our offensive line coach for 4 seasons? To the point where we were blaming him for losses? The undisciplined nature of the OL for 4 seasons?
  • How do you explain that this guy was tagged "Assistant Head Coach" during 4 of the most dog öööö seasons of Tech football in history?
  • How do you explain his absolute dog öööö performance as an OC at UCF? To the point that he had to take a demotion back to OL caoch? They went 0-12, mind you.
  • If he's such a great recruiter and builds such strong bonds with the kids, why did our key players already hit the portal? He couldn't even hang on to them?
I'm just asking...

But that's just it, he did get lucky. Go back and remind yourself of each of those games... We got pretty lucky. And I was glad to see it happen at the time, but it is not a sustainable coaching strategy.
And even if we had dominated, are we really so impressed by a guy beating a vastly overrated UNC team and a vastly overrated Pitt team?

If you're a bad team, it doesn't matter when you get lucky. You still lose.

If you're a good team, luck will make or break you against most teams.

If you're a great team, you don't need luck unless you're playing against another great team.

The exact reasons why can be debated, but we went from a #1 to #2 when Collins left and Key took over. That's a good thing. A really good thing! The first step to being great and not needing luck is being good and taking advantage of luck.

Hopefully Key can get us to #3. But after 3.5 years of losing no matter what, I'm not going to sneeze at Key orchestrating a midseason turnaround that allowed us to take advantage of luck that came our way.

Is there really a reason for this thread to exist? Ain't nobody stupid enough to read all this öööö.

Man, all I have to say is that CPJ was one of the best in the business and our offensive line looked like dogshit quite a lot. I can count on two hands the amount of good O linemen we have had over the last 15 years. Maybe we need to look into what is really the cause of this issue before we start blaming coaches. Maybe Key (and JBATT and GTAA) can start to fix this.

And I know I posted him in the reply....already pissed off now anyway.

Tech folks can be so darn binary at times. He wants to change this program, that's good. He will help us work at it over a period of years, that's good. It won't happen overnight, TFG walked out with $11M of it. That makes me want to hurl right there.
hopefully that scumbag clown will go out and get a job.
If Stainbury didn;t screw things up,then some monies should be recaptured.

-Every position group under performed compared to the last 8 games. I don’t know for sure, but look at the substitutions under Key vs CGC. Jordan Williams move to guard under Key. OL was playing better after 4+ weeks practicing under Key.
  • How do you explain that this guy was tagged "Assistant Head Coach" during 4 of the most dog öööö seasons of Tech football in history?

-No idea what authority comes with that title.
  • How do you explain his absolute dog öööö performance as an OC at UCF? To the point that he had to take a demotion back to OL caoch? They went 0-12, mind you.

-I don’t think this is important at all. OL is different than OC is different than HC.

-Good players leave for money, real tough to keep them. Relationships are important, but $25k vs $250k is more important. We haven’t played the NIL game well at all.

Well, now that I’ve created the “anti-BK” thread out of my initial fit of anger… I do want to say that since he’s officially our head coach, I hope he is the absolute right guy for the job.

Let’s win some damn ballgames.

This is some @coit basketball reasoning right here. Mutts have played down to there comp all year but chalk it up a W
Evidently, all we care about now is moral victories, and getting boatraced by FSU, Miami and Uga are somehow really awesome moral victories.

We were UVAs only ACC win.

We beat the top 2 teams in the coastal from inside a flaming dumpster. You wanted the guy to run the table and win the sugar bowl in his first 2/3 year?
Key took over at a terrible time and made us a better football team. He deserves credit for that. Thank him and send him on his way.

Being better than Geoff is not a valid reason to hire someone. That is virtually every coach in college football, including the coach of NIU and The Citadel.

Seriously, at his first press conference, Key emphasized that we had zero punt blocks. That was the bar he had to rise above. Again, credit to him for recognizing that and making it happen.

And the ACC Coastal sucks, as evidenced by the fact UNC and Pitt are its top 2 teams. Damn, even Geoff beat unc
