Watching Collins’ team this year I don’t think he would have come close to a win at Pitt. That makes me doubt him getting a win at home with Duke. Assuming the same injuries at QB the UVA game is a debacle - he had stubbornly refused to get backups meaningful snaps in blowouts. He might have won in Blacksburg. I doubt a 2-8 team wins in Chapel Hill. So, if we had kept Collins, we would have lost our usual 50-0, gone 2-10 or 1-11, fired Geoff today, and cleaned house with the staff. We would be a united fan base. This is why you are better off making changes at the end of the season. Key did enough for many of us to want him to get a shot, but not enough to satisfy everyone.

I was hoping for a win and enjoyed the first half. I guess its all about expectations. I remember feeling much worse under CPJ. I went back and looked at the data. It is not as bad as I remembered (thinking all the past losses were blowouts).

The 2008-2016 stretch could have seen 3 more wins had the ball rolled just a bit differently.

I think it saved some of us from tuning out completely. You had to make a statement for future coaches that there would be support. I stand by President Cabreras actions.

Lol yeah right we'd all be United about who to hire

Tonight I am pretty sure I prefer Brent Key to be our next head coach. But, it might not work out. No one knows how a new coach will do at a certain school. What I am tired of is those who state their preference as fact and call all who disagree foolish.

My concerns with Key - he has no experience leading a college program, just eight games as interim. I think he did a good job in the interim and I appreciate how he seemed to get the best out of his team. I don’t know how well he will build a staff. I do like how he has handled himself the last two months and if he gets the job, I have a strong hope he will prove to be an exceptional leader who gives his all for Georgia Tech football to succeed.

I don’t want Chadwell. But, I might be wrong. He has clearly been a good coach for Coastal Carolina. But, hot coaches from the Sun Belt are leading programs at Missouri, Louisville and Florida. See any slam dunks among them?

Bill O’Brien is a name coach with quite a resume. He has a good offensive mind. At 53 he has enough years ahead of him. But, he might not catch fire in Atlanta. A lot of recycled head coaches have not done well.

I still think Garret Riley would be a terrific hire. But, I could be wrong. His youth and inexperience might be too much to overcome.

Deion would be fun. I don’t think he is interested. I am not sure he would be a good fit.

Our AD will make the call, influenced by our President and by big donors. But, he will make the call. He may make a bad hire. He may strike gold. Only a handful of StingTalkers know their man is the only choice and all who favor others are idiots. Several of them were just as sure about Geoff Collins.

O’Brien’s offense is looking pretty good today .. just saying

At the very least, Key didn't do anything to disqualify himself from the job.

If we don’t hire Key as HC….nobody else is.

It is interesting that the coaches on our 'A' list (Key, Chadwell, Sanders) are not on anyone else's 'A' list; maybe Sanders is the exception? Anywho, I don't expect us to get in a bidding war for our HC coach.

That's why we won't pay a Paul Hewiit / Geoff Collins bumblef$&@ buyout if it doesn't work out.

Low guaranteed money, lots of incentives to win. Free the guaranteed money for his staff and give him a shot. He did enough with Geoff's leftovers and a 3rd string QB to deserve the chance.

Key has a low ceiling and we don't want another head coach, learning as he goes. But, GT is strapped for cash and apparently, the bulk of the fan base is ok with medocrity, so why not?

We know Colorado is interested in Sanders, but Auburn wants nothing to do with Prime Time, Inc. Nebraska doesn’t want him…nor does Wisconsin. Who does that leave?
