Key post game interview on radio - divided locker room?

Sure. You $8+ million to do so? My guess that’s an easy answer of no. Based on the last coaching search and how it ended, the list of candidate’s wouldn’t be great….

I think the list of candidates would be as great as the amount of money we would be willing to pay. I think we could get any coach in America if we offered him considerably more money than he could get anywhere else. At some point, Tech is going to have two choices: go all in on football with money and admissions or drop sports. There is no middle ground. Right now, we are trying to find the middle ground. Clearly, it is not working.

NIL and transfer portal are not conducive to strong clubhouse culture also. We have a bunch of transfers who don’t know each other, two competing QBs, leftovers from previous coach, and they all think they can go somewhere else next year and it will be better. It’s going to take a little time and even then, it will never be like it was pre-portal.

I’m more worried about Key’s game management right now because you can’t fire that and it will not graduate.

You heard correctly. My son and I looked at each other like WTF. Key has been here for all five years, so you think he would know the problems before game 7.
Knowing the problem and fixing it are two different things. It may be that the only was to actually fix it is to get rid of the problem players, and that would definitely upset a boat load of fans, players, players' families and the media.

This is my issue. We're 7 games in, and you're just now noticing some players haven't "bought in"??? Sounds like more finger pointing that will result in nothing of substance on the field.
How do you know he is just now noticing it? Maybe he has known it for some time but had the integrity not to single out individual players to the press and the fans.

Let say you have players who are causing locker room issues....wild to me that Collins could develop any loyalty after being 9-28 or whatever
Exactly any player that loyal to Collins would have gone into the portal last year.

OK let’s clarify a few things with the Portal. You cant go one place and leave after 1 year and go to another school and be eligible, unless there is a HC coaching change. So the following can all leave, but would have to go to FCS schools:

King, Lane, Leary, Cooley, Janneh, Seither, etc.

You can’t blame NIL and the Portal for lack of results on the field. Freaking Colorado has 70+ transfers and officially has more wins than GT.

I swear some of you make things up in your heads to romanticize the past, when transferring in and out was really no different from an impact standpoint.

This is clearly not true. There are many teams (Illiniois, Indiana, Cal, Kentucky, Vandy, South Carolina, Virginia, just to name a few that came immediately to mind) that have only dabbled at football for the better part of a century. Some of them go all in on other sports - basketball, baseball, soccer, golf - and some don't. But (maybe sadly) there IS a middle ground

I didn’t blame the portal and NIL for results on the field. I listed them as likely causes of crappy locker room culture.

so which one of us is making things up in his head?

Every single school uses the Portal for players. Do you see this being used as an excuse elsewhere for a lack of success? Every school deals with LR issues. This was an issue before the Portal / NIL era we’ve just now entered.

You said the following insinuating the Portal and especially NIL are “likely causes of a crappy locker room culture“ as you put it again:

”NIL and transfer portal are not conducive to strong clubhouse culture also. We have a bunch of transfers who don’t know each other, two competing QBs, leftovers from previous coach, and they all think they can go somewhere else next year and it will be better.”

If you think GT is going to be able to focus solely on signing 25 a year from HS and never deal with the Portal or NIL I don’t know what to tell you. GT’s problems have more to do with a combination of lack of talent and budget coaching. GT is 1 game away from being in the cellar of the ACC, and after yesterday, UVA looks like they may pass GT out of the cellar in a few weeks. There is ZERO excuse for being close to the worst program in the ACC.

This thread is about the locker room being divided.

and after the consensus best player leaves because he just wanted to win.
and after a Georgia player flat out tells Tech players "y'all so unprepared."
