KING OUT? - Nah King is back baby.

King was playing through a bad injury and the latest made it worse. I’d bet he’s done for the season.

Pyron is barely a serviceable backup. I think we've all seen that now. I like the kid, I truly do. But it's pretty obvious no one respects us one bit when he's out there. If you can't admit that to yourself at least, go back to Collins and Citadel losses.

This is your messiah.

Putting in Philo seems to indicate that we are desperate to find a better option than Pyron, who seems to be reading and passing in slow motion. Also makes me think Haynes is not coming back.

Not sure I really get your reasoning on the last sentence (outside of our collective ingrained pessimism). Why do you figure Philo getting PT has any bearing on King's availability later this season?

Not sure that a battle between the 2nd and 3rd string quarterbacks has anything to do with the status of the first string quarterback. That's pretty much why we have strings.

Pyron is hurt. He was hurt going into ND and got plastered that game.

Our OL was supposed to be a major strength. Instead we are going through QB's at a rapid rate. If Philo continues to play, he is at risk too.
By the way, Philo has played in 2 games now, so he has 2 more regular season games he can play in and keep his redshirt. He would be allowed to play in a bowl game though if we go. Sort of under the radar rule change this year is that only regular season games count towards your redshirt... so anybody that played 4 games regular season could play any post season games (conference championship, bowl, playoffs) and still keep the red shirt.

We are #1 in the nation in fewest sacks allowed.

Technically, we are third but the two teams ahead of us are Army and Navy.
And Haynes King hasn't gotten sacked. Louisville got credited with a sack which was on a designed run play. Pyron has gotten sacked 2 or 3 times IIRC.

Why would that make you think Haynes isn't coming back? Pyron was playing terribly at VT. I don't think he's a bad QB, but it was a really bad day for him. You had to switch QBs just to see what someone else could do.

You can look at it several ways.

It could mean King is coming back so we know we shouldn't need philo for the next three games and lose his redshirt.

It could mean King is not coming back and we need to see if he gives us the best chance at winning at least one more to get us a bowl even if does cost him the redshirt.

It could mean we needed him and the redshirt isn't a consideration at this point.

I don't think him playing gives us any clues into rather King will return or not. We just need to heal up, beat nc state and pull off an upset in one of the other two.
