Lack of talent on D

Getting stronger and conditioning is not creating speed that didn't exist to begin with, at least to a dramatic degree. Saban's guys were faster than most of the competition before they stepped on campus.

If you are 4.7 and "workout" to a 4.6, and you line up on Saturday against a guy who was 4.5 to begin with, who also works out to a 4.4, he blows by you before and after said workouts. Tackling is similar. Both are almost, but not quite equal, to coaching a guy to be 6'-4" instead of 6'-2".

On the defensive line we will still have the exact same depth problem and it's not going to fix itself for a few years. What we lost in the last year is not something to easily overcome. If we were an SEC school that could sign a few JC players that would be different. But we're not.

Agree on the DL depth issue, but we are not a "young" team next year in terms of returning starters. This youth excuse needs to be taken off the table next year. Actually, we were not so young last year as well.
