Lil Joe arrested for DUI and hit and run...

No way Joe is retained in any position dealing with players. As for Ugay fans piling on - what goes around comes around, most of us have piled on them when something bad happened over in Athens.

What a terrible ordeal. I used to hate that Joe seemed to have been so out-of-the-spotlight since he graduated, but now I'm not sure that was a bad idea.

The difference is that the latter is part of the daily schedule and the former is basically like a second Christmas to them.

Yikes. This seems completely out of character for the way he's always handled himself publicly. I have to agree with the majority here though...there's no way he can continue to be associated with this team.

If he can handle himself properly throughout the course of what's to come - I think that before I die, I'll see Joe doing work on the Flats again in a coaching/assistant capacity.

I say that because I can picture in my head the piece that College GameDay will run in Week 6, 2038 after they show the countdown to OSU-UM and before Lee Corso has a mascot head placed on the top of his life support machine.

Joe is done. Paul johnson will not allow this. This is really bad for joe. But some of the players are taking it hard. They really looked up to him. I dont see joe ever working at GT again as long as pj is here.

Joe is toast. You can't ask the players to respect a coach that is incapable of controlling himself. I hate this happened to Joe but I hate the bad PR for GT even more. I just cannot understand the self-destructive behavior of Joe or the baseball player that recently died. It's really tragic.

Looks like PJ has a real job ahead of him with respect to getting the football program back on track.

crushed over here

dear matt harpring and jarrett jack:

please don't do anything stupid forever.

thanks

The guy has been on the job for a week or two. How could they possibly have formed a tight bond with him?

Most were 10-12 years old when he played on The Flats, and very few grew up Tech fans. This is a complete non-issue.

Separately -- if it were just DUI or hit and run, he would be fine. It's the pot bust that's going to end it for him.

He has been around tech since he quit the afl. Most of the players have known him since they arived on campus. Some are good friends with him.

Why does everybody think they have to blow a little sunshine up chan's ass every time something negative happens to our program now??? He wasn't a great disciplinarian and his teams were soft...hence he is no longer here and we are gonna be better because of it...This is about JoeHam, and this should cost him his job....even so, he is still one of my all time favorites to ever wear the white and gold!! Lets just hope he learns from it and moves on...

well, i cant speak for everyone, but i think most of you gave Chan a raw deal and if we dont win 7 games next year, then i think we took a step back when we were moving forward (though no one seems to agree with me that we were moving forward). in any case, most of the time, people would say things like "when OLeary was here..." which was total BS, and it would piss me off. now, there is proof that there was no difference in the kids based on the coach, just that they were able to hide it better (apparently). And to say that Chan was not a disciplinarian is weird considering that we had very few kids get in trouble during his time here.

anyway, yes i think Chan is a good man and tried to do his best for Tech, but many of our fans just didnt appreciate the guy. note that the cowboys have yet to win a playoff game since he was fired there, and the Dolphins also took a step backwards. i hope we dont take that long to get back on track

and JoeHam is still one of my favorite players for Tech as well; and as far as what the worst offense is that he committed i think it is clearly the hit and run, not the weed or the booze. Hit and run shows total lack of concern for the other driver, not just making decisions for yourself.

Pitiful. All the best to Joe but he's just painted himself into a corner.

Let this bee a lesson learned. Joe will be back but never the same again.

Unbelievable. Everybody's just high on drugs at TECH?

Sad really.

I disagree that we were moving forward...and if we were... we were inching forward. And to say first that O'leary's players could hide it better, then saying that Gailey didn't have too many get in trouble? Maybe Gailey's were good at hiding it too. Chan was a pretty good coach, but for us to succeed we need a very good coach. 7 wins would have been hard with this schedule and TB at QB even with the same staff. On to Joe- Get a ****ing cab when you get smashed. That is all

7 wins would have been hard with this schedule

Come again?

JSU - W
GW - W
Duke - W
UNC - W

Those are all basically locks.

We have won our last 3 against Miami.
FSU is in disarray.
BC lost Ryan.
Mississippi State is still Mississippi State.

7 wins should be the minimum this year, and that's before the bowl. With or without a new coach.

And to say that Chan was not a disciplinarian is weird considering that we had very few kids get in trouble during his time here.
And how many got into trouble while OLeary was here? I doubt many if any did while OLeary was actually coaching. Joe just made a bonehead move and now may have ruined his career. This is no reflection on Gailey or OLeary disciplin IMO.

how is UNC a lock?

we have struggled the past 2 years against them when they have been attrocius....they will be improved

mississippi st is not the mississippi st of 3 or 4 years ago...they shut down the nations leading rusher in their bowl win and bring back a ton of youth

I posted this elsewhere and I will post it here. Obviously it will not be very popular but I am not about popular.

Man, my first instinct is Joe must be fired. And, I agree that he can't be working it out while he is working as a "counselor" to players and new recruits.

But the part of me that has seen guys time and again make these kinds of mistakes when it doen't make any sense leads me to ask what do we really know about Joe?

What I believe we know is this.... He is a genuinely nice guy. Has never really been in trouble before. Has always been an ambassador for GT football. Has always given 100%.

When I see these other character traits in someone, I want to go the extra mile for that guy. I want to see the "why" behind the screw-up.

This young guy has so much potential, and maybe he knows it. Maybe he knows it but just hasn't got the breaks.

Or, maybe he has had too many breaks and not had to face reality. That is just as bad and just as sad.... He still needs to catch hold of some breaks even if it is tough love from the GTAA.

Whatever it is, I am not ready to scrap this man. I am not ready to throw him to the side and say, NEXT!

I will support RAD and CPJ if they suspend, try to get help, whatever, and decide to keep him on in a lesser capacity. It would be worth it to see him as a success story from adversity again (even if he put himself there this time)

Joe Ham has always been good to GT.

GT is being tested now to see if we are willing to step up and show this guy some good old fashioned grace.....
