Fact of the matter is, we offer most of the top 50 in the state so we must think we can likely get them into school.

And despite the fact that it is rumored they may make a special exception for a 5 star, Stanford absolutely WILL NOT let any SA in without an SAT bar that is much higher than ours. So they have their own restrictions. Stop looking for those excuses. We've heard them all, know them all, why don't we just start passing them out in the program at games to fans so they'll know to lower their expectations. It isn't *just* a matter of the academic qualifications of the SAs we are recruiting. The "restrictions" we suffer under also include our limited set of degree programs. Those folks "but Stanford" folks always ignore the fact that Stanford has over 50 liberal arts degree programs and GT has something like 5.
The degree program restriction is far more of an issue than a SA's academic qualifications in my opinion.

I agree curriculum narrowness limits our pool somewhat... but it's still a poor excuse for recruiting failures. It isn't *just* a matter of the academic qualifications of the SAs we are recruiting. Do you agree it is a thisSo you agree with me then?
I agree with that but to just blanketly label anyone with 4-stars or above as dumber than the 2-and-3-stars is naive, not that you've done this btw. The vast majority of recruits from seasons past were snagged from mostly mid-major or lower programs. We weren't flipping Duke, Vandy, and Northwestern guys.

From the total pool of P5 recruits, a very large percentage have no idea what they want to major in, and for them a business degree from a solid undergrad business school is plenty attractive. That's like 80% of potential recruits right there. (Yes, I made that number up.)
Then from the remaining ones, some tiny number really really want to major in Rennaissance Art or Russian Literature or African History or whatever – but to whatever extent not offering those degrees hurts us with those guys, should be more than offset by our relative advantage among recruits with STEM interests.
If you're from the South, play football and have a STEM interest, we're the obvious choice. Not only do you live in Atlanta and have access to all the business, recreational and cultural opportunities in Atlanta, but you also get the best STEM degree in the South and play football in a P5 conference with a clear path to championships.
And don't "but calculus!" me – football players get such an incredible amount of academic support and hand-holding (if they need it) that – in the words of Adam Gotsis – "You really have to try to fail."
Our biggest problem, IMHO, is the lack of waterslides and fan support (I'm not joking). These guys get "paid" in the form of non-monetary experiential compensation – being feted across campus, the adulation of 100k adoring fans, waterslides, shiny facilities, etc. We need to pay more attention to fixing those problems and less griping about the fact that our greatest advantage – our degree is worth more than most others – is supposedly also our greatest disadvantage.

Kenyan Drake and Dalvin Tomlinson two examples of guys who chose bama over us and could qualify.. road the bench and now are both in the NFLSo just so I understand you, you think most if not all of the 5* athletes at BAMA and UGA would get into GT with no academic problem? And that the main reason they chose to ride the pine at BAMA instead of coming here is because of the Triple Option and a grumpy coach. If you are correct we should load up on 5* recruits next year because Atlanta is greater than Tuscaloosa or Athens; and more importantly those guys will have a much better chance of starting their Freshman year for us than they will their Junior year at Bama.

BTW he mentioned flipping guys from duke northwestern and vandy. Chill out with jumping to national championship competitors as comparisons
you clearly don't understand me.
So let me see if I understand you: All 4 and 5 stars (ALL. Not just the ones signed by Bama and mutts) are morons just too teh-stupid to come to GT and the only ones CPJ could get were 2-and-3-stars being recruited by such academic powerhouses as Marshall and Georgia Southern?
That’s why what CGC is doing putting out the NFL as a potential destination for our players and recruits even in the press conference for dam sake is a good thing.I think the 4 and 5* players all believe they can play in the NFL and want to be at a school that can best help them achieve that goal.
And that's why CGC is selling the NFL angle already. Do you honestly think if we have a couple of Top 10 seasons, we can't sell SOME high level recruits on our program and finding a major for them? Guys with their eyes on the league just want to play winning football with other good players.I think the 4 and 5* players all believe they can play in the NFL and want to be at a school that can best help them achieve that goal.
Also the angle of what a tech degree, whether it’s BA or whatever else, provides more opportunity for that NFL player to be successful after footballAnd that's why CGC is selling the NFL angle already. I haven't actually looked at the curriculum for 'Calculus for Everyone' or whatever the calculus-lite course is called, so I don't really know if it's hard or not. If it's not (as I'm led to believe), then we need to change its name and publicize that calculus is no longer a requirement for our business majors. There aren't any schools that give out BA's that don't have math requirements. There's no reason a single class that everyone takes should be a recruiting problem for us.I hope you are smart enough to realize that only applies to keeping a player eligible, not actually recruiting them in the first place.
GT recruiter: "We will give you academic support and tutors for hours of studying to help you get through Calculus."
School B recruiter: "We don't make you take Calculus because we will help get you to the NFL instead."

Here's what I think. Of all the 4 and 5 stars I think some percentage would qualify for us. Let's say that is 60%. Of that 60%, I would say half of them don't want to take Calculus if they don't have to; so now we're down to 30%. Of that 30% maybe half of those want to major in business since realistically that is what we offer; so now we are down to 15% before you even talk to a coach or discuss the scheme. Now if you sign all that 15% you are golden; but everyone else is after those guys too; GT is the only one that eliminates the majority of the pool of 4&5 stars before even starting to recruit.
I agree with this whole heartedly. All you have to do is take the word "Calculus" out of the title of the course, you can leave the syllabus exactly the same; but without the word Calculus there it isn't as potent a tool for negative recruiting.
