Locker Room Renovation Begins

THE FLATS - Georgia Tech has begun a $4.5 million renovation to its football locker room, a project that will transform the Yellow Jackets' 15-year-old locker room into one of college football's most state-of-the-art dressing areas.

Features of the new locker room include:



  • modernized visual displays throughout the space, including a "gear wall" featuring Georgia Tech's new adidas apparel and equipment;
  • enhanced audio-visual systems to keep student-athletes informed and entertained;
  • a hydration station that puts a wide variety of sports drinks at student-athletes' fingertips, including Powerade and Core Power (the official protein drink of Georgia Tech athletics);
  • a hydrotherapy area, including hot and cold tubs to assist in student-athletes' everyday recovery and rehabilitation;
  • upgrades to the locker room's existing steam room;
  • increased shower and restroom capacity.
Additionally, each of the 116 individual lockers will include mechanical systems for ventilation and drying, as well as charging stations for student-athletes' mobile phones, tablets and laptop computers.

The project is being funded by a gift from an anonymous donor. Heery International, Inc. is the project's architect and JE Dunn Construction is the general contractor.

"The locker room is one of the areas where football student-athletes spend their most time, so this upgrade will not only greatly benefit our current student-athletes but is also a big part of our efforts to enhance our football recruiting," Georgia Tech director of athletics Todd Stansbury said. "We're grateful for the generous gift given by an anonymous donor that has allowed us to provide our football student-athletes with a brand-new, state-of-the-art home."

The renovation begins in earnest this week with the demolition of the current locker room, which is located in Georgia Tech's football headquarters on the north end of Bobby Dodd Stadium. The project is slated to be complete before the Yellow Jackets open fall camp in August.

What about slides, barbershops, mini putt putts, pool tables and humidifiers for shoes?
 
Probably looking WAY too into a 3d rendering of a remodeled locker room.... but did anyone else notice the white facemasks on the helmets?
 
I'm thinking there needs to be more/bigger flat screens and stripper poles. Especially if we are going to sell Atlanta to recruits.

If anybody thinks we would have seen this with DRad, you're crazy. This could be one of the better offseasons for us. Adidas, new locker rooms, a stronger D from Woody, decent recruiting class, acknowledgement of needing financial help. We aren't where we want to be for sure, but we're taking steps, and not just baby steps anymore. It looks like we're tired of standing still instead of making progress, and that can only lead to positive things.

Not sure why you say that? DRad's big thing was capital improvements. Some say he was too focused on it, to the detriment of other things.

You forgot about the ACC revisiting its scheduling algorithm. Another shovel of coal into the furnace of the hype train. Speaking of which, I imagine the league play scheduling should be released soon

The athletic directors added a provision into the league’s scheduling model that will limit each team to playing one conference game per season in which it plays the previous week but its opponent has an open date. The parameter will go into effect for the 2018 season.
