his commitment from Tulsa to GT. Could be a great slotback under P.J. He is from Texas. 4.4 speed.

With Embrey Peoples he will be one of 2 very fast slotback recruits that will fit right in. We have just become even faster as a team. That is four 4.4 or sub 4.4 burners (Dwyer,Jones,Peoples,Wright) to fill our slotback position. Wow, speed and more speed.

He ran for 3374 yards this year with 45 tds. He was first team 5A in Texas and offensive player of the year.

You'd figure that those numbers would imply him being better than a two-star recruit. Just goes to show something about the star system, I guess.

Great pick-up! Welcome to GT!

The only reason he is a two star is his size, but Rivals.com has him running a 4.36, so the speed is real. Looks like he's another kid like Reggie Campbell at Navy, only much faster. Campbell was a nightmare for defenses, and I have no doubt that this kid will be too.

Don't think a kid this size can play? Just look at Darren Sproles at San Diego in the NFL. This kid is similar in size and speed.

Rivals has him as 3-star. Hopefully, it's just because of his size, considering most of these star-ratings, I imagine, are based on pro-style type offenses.

But for PJ's system, this sounds like a great pickup

EDIT: Need to hit that refresh button first next time

Always been a fan of the shorter backs, gives them that extra second to "hide" behind the oline before they hit the hole (or turn the corner in our new offense). Hopefully he'll have a great few years on the flats.

He is 5'7".

At an April Rivals combine he measured 5-6, 163...and clocked the fastest forty time in the camp at 4.36. That was 9 months ago.

He also committed to Tulsa back in April. Supposedly much larger name schools tried to get in with him during his spectacular senior season but his parents told them no. The main reason they listened to GT is that his father just retired from the military and they wanted to move back to Atlanta where they have a lot of close family.

That's great! He sounds like a good find...now we just need a photo op with our last 2 recruits to show the diversity that we have at GT. Barnes is a foot taller and is shy of doubling his body weight by a mere 20lbs....Barnes is a BEAST.

Wonder if CPJ was able to build a repore w/ Mr. Wright by having coached at Navy....

I would be willing to bet the AJC runs a story next August when freshman report that shows Marcus Wrigth at 5-6, 165 and TJ Barnes at 6-7, 320 standing next to each other in pads....with some dorky title.

yeah and the title would read.....Not your average freshman Div I football player...

Not nearly a negative enough slant against GT. Would have to be something like "GT recruits runt to play tailback" or some crap like that.

Although, hopefully they will then have to have another article saying "GT runt runs all over our precious dawgs" after the GA game...:fingersx:

"Um, Mr. Josh sir, could you pitch the ball just a little lower please." Sorry I couldn't resist. Sounds like a great get. Go Jackets.

Darren Sproles (the guy that broke off a 60 yarder against the Colts in the Chargers' playoff win) is 5'6", 180.

Gotta have burners on the outside in this offense. Between having Jones and Evans right now and these two for the future CPJ should be pleased.

Scout may bump up the rating now. My guess is since he committed so early, they never really evaluated him much. The again, it could just be his size like others stated.

I bet Scout bumps him to 3 stars, to go along with all our other 3 stars.

You guys left out Noel Devine. Height is way overrated for the running back position. Just get this kid in space.
