Marcus Wright a 5'7 170 lb. burner switches

Height may be overrated, but not weight. 170 pounders can get squashed by 300 pound linemen that are nearly capable of catching them. Good luck to him.

Does anyone know why he committed to Tulsa that early?

I don't even think weight is overrated. If you manage the number of touches (which this offense does naturally) and the player can consistently avoid direct contact (like Warrick Dunn), then weight isn't an issue either.

Warrick is an incredible specimen. While good at not getting hit directly, when he does, he usually moves the pile the other way!

Part of it is his strength, but a large part of it is simply leverage; getting under someone else's pads is a great equalizer against weight. Heck, as a 185 pound LB in HS, if I could get under the O-linemans pads, I could usually push them back, or get off the blocks (except for the really good ones who went on to play high-level college ball).

Yeah, that Jerry Mays guy at 4.6 couldn't play a lick either!?&*%$#!

The nice thing about having a zillion running backs in a system that puts 3 on the field at any given time, is that one isn't always taking the punishment. Which means durability isn't as important as in a Chanesque offense.

Dude...that isn't what LSU's 5-6 RB is experiencing, nor WVU 5-7 RB Noel Divine.

Fact is if you use the guy right not only can he be a bigtime playbreaker, but a key part of the team as those two were above.

Dave Megget with the NYG comes to mind too.

so was noel devine and he was 5star recruit for WVU last year.

The rankings are bs

Guy is rated #48 prospect in texas, 5A first teamer, has that production....and no love.

To play devil's advocate (and contradict info I've already provided), with Wright's accolades and measurables certainly one of the Texas schools would've noticed him and offered, regardless of what the recruiting sites project him to be at the next level. What gives?

This thread makes me remember Bobby Dodd's great Pony Backfield. I remember Giles Smith and Johnny Gresham, but forget the name of the third back. Can anyone else remember it? I think his first name was Terry.

If you read the articles his father said that a number of BCS schools contacted his coach with interest but the family didn't talk to any of them because he committed and he really liked the coaches, etc. at Tulsa. The only reason they listened to Tech was because his father is retired and they have family in ATL.

Rivals shows interest from Texas A&M, but I don't have a subscription to tell you if he offered. On the scout write up, his Dad says he had other offers but declined to name them because they never considered schools other than Tulsa before Tech called. So, the answer is: early commit, huge senior year, interest at a high level with little information from the recruit. He played in the Army All-America game, which to me puts him in the Top 100 nationally.

Well damn, looks like we lucked into him. Glad we're keeping a keen eye on all our options. Out-STANDING pick up. He and Jaybo will be seniors together, too.

agreed. If he was 5-11 he would have been 4 stars easily with those measurables half way through his senior or end of his junior year.

The issue with Wright was the fact he committed to tulsa rather quick and shunned off all schools. That combined with his height made him an overlook. They categorically rejected conversations from bigtime programs for whatever reason. PJ was able to crack that shell somewhat and I believe they may have even initiated contact with GT since they have family there but I am still trying to find that out.

I was told this morning of 2 Texas schools and 2 Big 12 schools who offered him his senior year but he never would talk. This is a very good pick up!

Thanks, all. Sounds like his family has his best overall interests at heart (maybe to a fault).

If it MATTERS to all you...he is a GA boy...living in Texas.

He was born here. His dad was in the army.

They want to come back...this is a step.

Yes he is from Texas...but he is a GA boy at heart.

A school that has had great success with the likes of a Jerry Mays, Brent Cunningham, or Jimmy Thompson shouldn't even be discussing the size of a runningback, unless we are talking about the size of his heart.

Marcus Wright has been my favorite GT target this year and I'm absolutely stoked about this one.

His stats and Rivals highlights are jaw-dropping, and this was in Texas 5A football which is not chump change.

Miss a tackle on Pitch Wright (sorry!) and you get serenaded by a W&G/Ramble medley. This is a kid who could haunt the nightmares of the ACC and the Evil to the East for years.

He appears to be a classy kid from an awesome family as well.
