Miami Coach

Miami is similar to Georgia Tech in a couple of aspects:

1. They have relatively poor support from current student body and alumni who don’t value their football program.

2. Today’s good high school players cannot remember their legendary days, it’s been so long ago.
I can tell you HS ballers still know about Da U and their glory days. I'm very close to HS football down here in FL and the Miami mystique is still here. It helps that the very best teams and players are all within a 1 hr drive of Miami so part of the Da U mystique is that the Dade/Broward County area always produces loads of top shelf D1 players and they all love Da U. It doesnt take much to get them to commit to Miami. Just need a bit of excitement about the program and they all flock to it in droves.

Miami finally has a QB. They are going to be good this year. They’ll be a playoff contender the next two.

I wouldn't underestimate Mario Cristobal. 2 years from now when he's upgraded Miami's talent from highly rated undisciplined imbeciles shooting their mouths off to better quality recruits trained and capable of backing up their formerly false bravado, watch out. He's got a weak ACC & can dominate for a decade. This threat is real and for once da U didn't crap themselves when they hired a head coach.
Didn't they say this about the last 3 coaches? I though Richt was supposed to instill discipline.

They have a large number of turncoat fans, but they're generally pretty rabid. They win a few games & they'll all come out of the woodwork. They're not wait 4 years and see fans like GT.

Yeah he sucks. 9-4, 12-2 & 10-3 at Oregon in 3 non-Covid seasons. That's 31-9. I think you're too used to the 9 being on the other side of the dash line.
I didn't say he sucks, but what is so impressive about his career that makes you think he is the key to turn Miami around?

Too early to say. Maybe he will be good, but he hasn't done anything to get praise for yet, certainly not from us.
He's won multiple conference championships in multiple conferences, he's an excellent recruiter, and he improved FIU and Oregon over what they had done under the previous HCs. That's a hell of a lot better resume than the goof we hired.

I am just saying a lot of guys had good resumes and were mediocre at the U, so let's wait and see. Why does everything have to be a comparison to Collins? Do we need a thread praising every other coach in the country? It's just weird. He was no Chip Kelly at Oregon anyway.

Pretty sure I could win 10+ per year in Oregon with the resources they have.

But put me in Coral Gables and I would face plant like Al Golden. Or Randy Shannon. Or Marc Richt.

Cristobal may be a great coach. Who knows. Win at a tough place to prove it.

I was wondering about this. I would have thought Oregon would have had the resources to prevent Miami from stealing their coach. Maybe the Nike money isn't as much as we all think, or maybe he just got on Phil's bad side?

No, he has won 2 conference championships. Saying "multiple" is padding his resume. Oregon was in no way suffering before he arrived, recruiting wise.

It was a Miami booster who made it happen. He has a man crush on Cristobal

He is a Miami alum, born and raised there

Saw an interview on ACCN with Miami's new coach, Mario Cristobal. Guy impressed me,wish we had him instead of CGC. Focused, got a firm demeanor and plan versus our 'culture' sales man.

Tuesday,8-16-22, will be the day for GT coverage. Might be worth watching.
I don't think GT could afford Cristobal. He is an inventive type coach. That brings talent in, alone. I think Miami is 2-3 years away, from dethroning Clemson. I could be wrong.. But, I can easily see a huge upside, coming for Miami.

Wikipedia says he was conference champ twice at Oregon and once at FIU, idk how you define multiple.

I don't think I said Oregon's recruiting was lacking beforehand?

His 4th game of the season, he should tie our win season total. By game 5, we’re probably going to be staring up at his 5 hole dreaming about what it takes to hire someone that excites the fanbase. Maybe it’s game 6, but worst case da U starts 4-2. If our guy starts 4-2, the heat on firing CGC will have disappeared and 90% of the fanbase will revert back to a wait and see mode. Let’s hope this is the case.

I’ve got tons of da U fans working for me. They get a thrill up their leg just thinking about football season. We’re spending our time praying we don’t completely suck or get pasted by directional Carolina.

Sure, I would think enough money could keep him away though if Oregon wanted.

This seems more likely.

No doubt Miami went all out to bring him home, but Oregon isn't really going to get into a bidding war. They have no trouble attracting good coaches and have been winning under several different guys over the last 20 plus years

Have y’all seen Oregon’s athletic facilities? Second only to Bama. That place is ridiculous. Cristobal wants to win in a place where he can take credit for it.

Collins could win 10 games a year in Oregon.

Cristobal wants a challenge.
